She's probably a bit top heavy, and the fact that the Type 51C will operate in a task force will help eliminate the need for a hangar as well.

take a look at what's on helicopter hangar. Blame it on those large VLS units.

I noticed. But I think they really have some extra room in the front side of the ship to fit at least one set of those VLS, thus leaving some extra room for a heli hanger. Bad designing in the beginning I guess, hard to believe they're still making more of this class.

How'd you figure? They basically stuck with the 051B hull and put rif on there, so it wasn't designed for it. That's where the problem comes from.

Everyone keep saying their role is to escort otherships in formations. Escort what? PLAN's one and only 071 landing ship?
they don't need the helo-hangar, when they escort other ships which have more as enough space to carry helos
so they can install more weapons instead of the hangar-space

From the looks of it, this ship is designed to work in a task force with other ships. The Type 51C will concentrate on providing AAW for the task force, while the other ships operating in the task force will provide ASW.
