That sub looks like its beyond hope, even for a museum. Who is going to pay to renovate that? I see a good price for a nice hunk of scrap steel.

Check the Chinese wordings on the sail. It said " A Gift from PLAN" 中国人民解放军海军赠。It is actually in very good condition, mud stain yes, rust? hardly any. A fresh coat of paint will do wonder.

Sure it has seen better days, but you must've forgotten those left rusting away at some remote abandoned Russia harbours...

2022年1月19日，“长城191号”退役潜艇落户黄浦滨江，意味着上海潜艇展示馆项目启动。

“长城191号”潜艇是我国第一代自主设计、研制的潜艇。退役后由海军无偿划拨上海中国航海博物馆进行展示利用。退役潜艇落户上海黄浦滨江充分发挥该艇的国防教育作用，提升黄浦江沿岸文化功能。

潜艇落户位置就位于江南造船厂旧址的3号船坞，修缮后将建成上海潜艇展示馆。2022年1月19日，上海潜艇展示馆项目拖船入坞作业正式实施。

项目组利用全年有效的潮汐窗口期实施拖船入坞，潜艇于当日上午11点30分从立新船厂出发，由拖轮牵引至黄浦滨江3号船坞，现场还解决船坞长时间荒废坞门开启困难等复杂问题，在各方配合下成功将潜艇引入并实现落墩。

The boat's former designation in PLAN was “长城191号" (Chang'Cheng 191).
The drydock seems very beatup, that's because it's the drydock no.3 in the old site of Jiangnan Shipyard. Moving the sub into the drydock marked the beginning to convert the site into a submarine museum. The news brief also said the old drydock had some difficulty to get the gate open (for it has been left abandoned for quite some time) but nonetheless resolved along with other issues.

So, given that this topic is also about the 091 submarine, I have a question.
Does anyone have any link to any detailed, in-depth text about the development of the 091? Primarily from the technical side - what features did the submarine have and why did the designers choose various design traits?

Additionally or alternatively, does anyone have any cutaway drawings and/or schematics of the 091? Of course those aren't going to be available with great detail but even very basic ones, equivalent to these,
would be enough. Hopefully, since the 091 is ancient tech by now, there might be some materials on it out there.
Anyway, thanks for any possible input.
