It May not be a bad idea for Russians to send their Sovremenny destroyers to China for upgrades.

The Russians will try to keep and maintain the competence in Russia just like China does so long as Russia sees herself as one of the world powers which will be the case in the foreseeable future.

I would be very surprised if the 136 and 137 received 730s or 1130s amidships as pictured in those CGIs. Those CIWS are fairly tall and would seem to endanger helicopter operations, being located so close to the landing pad. I think it would be more likely for 136/137 to either retain their AK-630s or have their gun CIWS installed at another location, for example where the AK-630 FCRs are currently located. Or not have them at all, since 2 gun CIWS + 2 HHQ-10 launchers seems to be fairly excessive point defense for an 8,000t destroyer. Also, it is impossible for the 136/137 to receive an HHQ-10 launcher on top of the hangar since there is no room for such an emplacement. The 138 and 139 OTOH should have no problem receiving amidships gun CIWS mounts where their Kashtans used to be and an HHQ-10 launcher on top of their hangar. I think it may also be possible to have rear HHQ-10 launchers for all 4 ships on the same platform as the Shtil missile launcher and have enough room to fit a VLS at the same time.

If it's the same size as the original HHQ-16, I don't see why not. Though since the Sovs don't have a long range illumination radar like the 052C/D, if the HHQ-16B has a range in excess of what the Orekh-equivalent illuminators can provide, that additional capability will be wasted.

I have actually wondered about this very thing many times. I think I read somewhere (maybe in the Naval Institute Guide) that if the incoming missiles are in a narrow arc the Orekh can actually provide illumination for 2 targets. IIRC the Orekh is a PESA with limited ICWI capability. As for the ranges of the various HQ-16 series, they're probably all speculative unless somebody got these numbers off a vendor sign at some show.

Is it though? I think 32 054A pattern VLS and sensor suite, HHQ-10, possibly H/PJ-11, and YJ-12 or YJ-18 as AShM along with a likely modern combat management system and command/control suite and datalink I think would be quite a cost effective upgrade of the Sovs.
