I love how Xinhua and the rest of the State-funded Chinese news sources always do the "US journal criticisms..." thing where they cherry pick an article or source in the incredibly diverse US media to say that "Oh look, the Americans disapprove of US foreign policy that we coincidentally don't like as well".

You mean how they do the exact same thing western media does?

I guess but the Chinese government really doesn't allow for nearly as much diversity of thought in the major media outlets as the US does. Like when one of the popular Chinese anchors was suspended from his job because he was filmed cursing Mao at one of his dinners even though that is an opinion expressed by many Chinese, both regular members of society as well as business moguls and tycoons as well.

It cracks me up every time I see such clueless hackjob taking potshots at Chinese governance and system. Not saying it's not relevant, but that's just one dot, one data point. Do you see the whole dot plot? Can you connect the dots? Do you see the needle moving?

Disproportionate reporting and focus on dissenting opinions from individuals or groups in an opposing nation always occurs, no matter which nation's media you are.

Western media always love to put reports about activists and dissidents from Russia and China on their front pages as well, or even occasional criticisms within the govt, and give those articles suspiciously heavy weight. It's part of the media game, nothing new, and everyone does it.

American media is a plutocracy disguising as a "free press". One has to be naïve or brain washed to believe other wise. Heck just by looking at the political arena alone it leans towards the left a lot.
Well if it was a plutocracy then it would lean more to the right by US standards. In any event the definition of "liberal" and "conservative" are kind of the opposite in China with "liberal" being more free-market and being a more diverse, open society and "conservative" meaning more government regulations and more nationalism.

However, the Philippines has taken the issue to arbitration in its dispute with China. And with the blessing of the United States, the Philippines is hoping that the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague will rule in its favor, said the article.
This same Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague judged that Russia should pay the shareholders of the late Russian oil company Yukos $50b but was some weeks ago judged not qualified to handle the matter by a Dutch court because Russia never ratified the treaty concerning that court. In this matter China has excluded the authority of this court so if it were to judge in favour of Manilla China can go to the Dutch court to have the judgement squashed.
