Medical equipment is unloaded from a Chinese ship-based helicopter, which landed on a playground at a remote island in the Maldives on July 2, 2013. It is the first time that the Chinese navy's medical helicopter was involved in a medical mission outside China. The helicopter concluded the mission the same day, diagnosing and treating more than 220 patients in Maldives. The mission started on July 1.[Photo/Xinhua]

I have a BUNCH of PLAN and PLA helo pictures gathered over the years. Here is one from each group I have:

More like "they should" but a navalised WZ-10 would only be possible when the WZ-10 get better engine. Once with better engine, the negative effect of added weight due to navalising the design can be partly negated.

Most importantly, the WZ-10 introduce the concept of proper attack helicopter to the PLA, so it will be sometime before the feedback from the army aviation and most importantly, new engines will result in the "true WZ-10" that the naval aviation can finally incorporate into its forces, giving the Marines CAS support that they're sorely lacking at this time.

They could very easily navalize the Z-19, given it shares the same rear fuselage as Z-9, which we all know has been navalized with many such variants. In fact, a naval Z-19 would give the PLAMC a decent attack helicopter more or less as capable as the AH-1 supercobra, the USMC's current mainstay attack helicopter (while Z-19 does lack a gun, both have MTOWs of 4.5 tons and Z-19 may make up for it with more advanced avionics).

There's also no reason they can't produce a navalized Z-10 -- it'll still fly even with the added weight of navalization. They can just re engine them later once WZ-16 is ready, but for the moment it'll give them a decent attack helicopter in the class of eurocopter tigre.

The US Marines are replacing the AH-1W Super Cobras with the newer, rebuilt, more powerful, more capable, and more modern AH-1Z Viper.

It is similar in capability to the Apache now. If I were the PLAN, I would move directly to the WZ-10 if possible. But if not, then the other would be an effective stop-gap.

I really find the look of the nose radome on the Z-8 endearing. Especially with the rotor blades folded from this angle it looks like the head of a cartoon dog, like Snoopy or Pluto.
