Well, if they make a naval variant...and we have to presume that they will if the performance characteristics are anything close to the Seahawk (S-70)...then that artwork is probably going to be fairly accurate.

one of the most important projects with PLA imo, especially for the navy.

I agree, particularly if they can develop and place a strong ASW sensor, weapons package on it. It would significantly enhance the PLAN's ASW capabilities off of all of its vessels with a pad and hanger.

If anything, the Z-20 has gone "dead quiet", even the Y-20 would have more coverage and have high-resolution photos released, but the Z-20 got close to nothing.

And that makes perfect sense and is in accordance with previous patterns where we've had few pictures of new helicopters for sometimes months on end.

Y-20 was a special case because there was a lot of pride attached to that project.

Does anyone have an idea about this AEW-unit ?? Will this new type simply assigned to an old unit or will it be a new specialized regiment ...

To admit so far I thougth that all helicopters on board the Liaoning are "re-assigned" from standard helicopter units ... but with the new Z-18YJ it might be different ?

Good question Deino.. It could be just a non-operational prototype or the first of the real batch of AEW helos.. don't expect the PLAN to have a press conference to tell us all about the helo...not anytime soon.

I served in two helo squadrons.. I don't recall seeing the rotors engaged to wash engines. Interesting.
