What will the first PLAN Carrier Strike Group look like?

Here's a simulated (meaning it is not real) overhead satellite picture of what the first PLAN CBG might look like, including the Varyag, two type 052c DDGs, a type 956 DDG, a type 052B DDG, two type 054 FFGs, and two type 093 SSNs.

I had posted this on the older forum and thought I would post it here too for comment. Would a 051c be in there...will there be larger, more capable area AAW DDGs or CGs?

Also, here are US Aircraft Carrier in storage. Compare to the building/refurbishing VAryag

The aircraft carrier USS Constellation, CV-64. Notice the F-14 on deck.

The US Naval reserve fleet there in Bremerton represents several frigates and destroyers, an AEGIS cruiser, three full deck aircraft carriers, and several amphibious and support ships. Those ships alone, if in service, would be more powerful by themselves than the naval capabilities of over 90% of the other nations in the world. The United States maintains a significant number of such anchorages for reserve fleets around the United States. Many of those ships are in mobilizaton category B status, meaning they are mothballed for reactivation in times of crisis. Others are awaiting disposal and categorization, either for sale to foreign allies, foru use in naval exercises, or awaiting scrapping.

On this trip, as an added bonus, we were able to observe two US Navy front line vessels, the USS John Stennis and USS Ohio, in port undergoing maintenance and significant upgrades and refit at the Bremerton Naval shiptards. I got several pictures of them and here are a couple.

The guided missile submarine, the USS Ohio, SSGN 726, just completing the significant refit from a SSBN, and preparing to put to sea.

Thanks for taking the time to share this family trip with us, and the pride we have in the UNited States military and the loyal men and woman who works so hard to defend our liberty and the fundamental moral values that define our way of life, and all of those who give so much of themselves to maintain and serve that cause.

I was able to get on base, accompanied by my son-in-law.

The entire area is great...but I could spend two weeks scurrying around those ships.

Also would it be possible to launch such an aircraft from Varyag's ski jump or would this require the installation of steam catapults?

I believe if the Varyag carries any AWAC capability, it will either be a helo based platform, or perhaps some kind of VTOL platform.

The US would do well, and has studied, creating an AWAC version of the V-22 Opsprey. They would work well on the Amphibious ships in conjunction with the F-35 JSF.

I do not believe any aircraft as big as the one pictured by popeye will be suitable for the ski jump at all. Too heavy and not enough speed, particularly without very strong catapaults.

Just my opinion.

That aircraft looks far too big and bulky for the Varyag and its ski jump popeye. Anyhow, as I understand it, that Yak (Russian) aircraft is just a mock-up...but am still waiting for further verification of that.

By the way, I would be interested in your input/comments on this thread about my recent trip over to Bremerton.

JF-17 isn't developed for naval stuff. It's all going to be su-33 or naval J-10s. We'd definitely have more frigates than that. Also, maybe the Ukraine cruiser?

Re: AWACS for future chinese carrier

that aircraft can't be launched from a ski raneed , it needs catapult for carrier take off - so it could only be used, if carriers with ski rump (like the Varjag) additional have catapults in front of the angeld deck
