PLAN Carrier Strike Group and Airwing

Re: PLAN Carrier Construction

Not every forum is like SDF.

There's also tonnes of people on Chinese forums advocating for war, and surprisingly they have the same "vision" as those Indians: To wage war with Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, The Philipines, Taiwan, or India.

It is not uncommon to find these kind of people in the US as well. Even the kids can say "kill them all so that we don't have to pay back the debt".

Those comments on News outlets, regardless of nationality and language, are just even more outright stupid.

Through these years of reading on the Internet I have pessimistically came to the conclusion most people on the Internet are hopelessly nationalistic, egocentric, stupid and ignorant. And the sad part is, this seems to be true despite of where people come from and what language they speak, or how developed their countries are.

SDF is about as civil as you can get on the internet. It comes down to good moderation everyone knows the rules and where the lines are. And the rules are pretty well in forced here. That maybe the problem on other forums.

Now back on topic. I'm not so much waiting for a perhabs 70000 ton Liaoning like aircraft carrier as that in my view maybe too soon for China at the moment. I'm waiting for a 30000 ton LHD project. Type 075 ? Why haven't we heard any news about that ? I think China is capable of building such a ship at this time without much problem. Perhabs when the current batch of FFG's, and DDG's clear the dockyards we start to hear about these flat top projects.

Re: J-15 Carrier Multirole Fighter thread

The first J-15 prototype is believed to have performed its maiden flight on August 31, 2009, powered by Russian-supplied AL-31 turbofan engines. On May 6, 2010, the aircraft conducted its first takeoff from a simulated ski-jump.In July 2011, it was reported FWS-10H turbofan engine was chosen for J-15 fighter, which has takeoff thrust increased to 12,800 kg, comparing FWS-10 turbofan's 12,500 kg. Other improvements were also made to make it better suited to carrier-based fighter's requirement. On 25 November 2012, Chinese media announced that two J-15s had made successful arrested landings on the aircraft carrier Liaoning.Test and training program officials confirmed the carrier-borne aircraft and special equipment for the landing flight had gone through strict tests, and fighter jets can be deployed on the carrier. In December 2013 Chinese media reported that mass production of J-15s in full operational condition with combat markings had begun.

Re: J-15 Carrier Multirole Fighter thread

An unfinished Su-33 prototype, the T-10K-3,was acquired from Ukraine sometime in 2001 and is said to have been studied extensively, with development on the J-15 beginning immediately afterward.
It is also known as Flying Shark.
While the J-15 appears to be structurally based on the Su-33, the indigenous fighter features Chinese technologies as well as avionics from the J-11B program.

Re: J-15 Carrier Multirole Fighter thread

The J-15 would serve the PLAN for many years to come, and it seems that the GAD has some upgrades in mind. The J-15 was originally slated for an AESA radar, but the PLAN wanted it in service quick so they had to push the AESA into the "B" variant instead.

The J-15B is rumored to be slated for first flight in 2014 and possible mass production in 2016, and it will be equipped with the same active phased array radar as the J16, making it approximately comparable to the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. EW variants and buddy-refueling variants are also planned, and a twin-seater J-15S comparable to the F/A-18F has made its maiden flight in 2013, a total of 5 variants.

Re: J-15 Carrier Multirole Fighter thread

Just a very pretty airplane, and my favorite Flanker variant, an outstanding choice for the PLAN's first carrier based Fighter, can't wait for the J-15s.

The J-15 is toooooo large IMO. It's nearly as large as an old USN RA-5C Vigilante. I betcha they won't be able to get more than 20 safely aboard the ship. IMO the PLAN should have opted for the MiG-29.. If they had they'd perhaps would have had a full air wing and a deployable ship by this time..or at least a ship in a full training cycle in prepration for some sort of deployment.

Long ago I stated this;

10.06.2006

Excellent idea for the Chinese to produce Mig-29 rather than buy them. But why build them when you can buy them? The Chinese could probally produce them at a lower cost. It is always nice to have new toys for your armed forces. But a nation can only afford so much. More than likely you and everyone else is correct in assuming the PLAN will go with the Su-33. We will all have to wait and see how the first PLAN CVW shapes up.
