Regarding the "six years" that I think we've all read for the first Chinese-made carrier to complete, I read a rumor today that this "six-year" period has actually started since some two years ago! I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
By the way (and sorry for being off topic), Jeff, you were somehow dragged into some infight on the BR forum's Chinese Military thread. It sounds like someone there really resents you.

You cannot have an opinion about some of this stuff, or even write fictional novels without someone taking issue with it and making more out of it than the sincere opinion it may be, and the fiction that the novel is.

There's some really good stuff there sometimes, but also some very opinionated people, some of whom actively post for, and hope for China to go to war with Japan, Vietnam, the US, etc. so that China can be weakened and easier to handle from India's perspective. IMHO, it is not very well moderated in that regard.
I suspect someone took issue with my book series, "Dragon's Fury: World War against America and the West," because in that fictional novel I have India actually allying with China and some of them take personal offense to that, even though it is a purely fictional novel.
Such people generally find that I am relatively conservative and so it does not take long, in their dislike for my fictional scenario, for some of them to start throwing angry labels around like imperialist, War Monger, Racist, etc., etc. though none of those have anything remotely to do with me. But when you decide you dislike someone, and you cannot argue with the purely technical aspects of what they say, sadly, far too many resort to ad hominem attacks to try and compensate for their lack of any reasoned argument.
Oh well, I learned long ago to treat it like water on a duck's back feathers.

I think talking up the achievements of one's own country always plays well, especially when there is rather low truth grain count in it, and therefore most people would need official encouragement to feel good about feeling good about it.

Damn! you be right. I think I lost a few IQ points just being in that forum. Apparently most everyone there is eagerly looking forward to total war and the annihilation of Pakistan and also China under the hands of the US and Japan.
It never cease to amaze me that people who advocate wars very seldom have served in one nor have they witnessed one themselves! War is hell. It's not a video game and it's certainly not the the sanitized version your see on CNN.
