Qiu Wenxing, deputy chief of mission and minister at the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., told reporters Wednesday that while Xi had agreed to visit the U.S. in the fall, "the date has to be determined," and he added that "favorable conditions have to be created prior to such an important state visit."

Xi's visit in September seems like quite the powerful card, pan-green was making a lot of noise in their media back when Trump said he would do a phone call, but then subsequently cooled off once it became apparent the call wasn't forthcoming.

Not sure if it moves the needle much politically on the island though. Polls are showing Lai's favourability is dropping fast but also KMT isn't really doing any better relative to DPP, no doubt their current infighting (a proud KMT tradition going back a century) means they can't capitalize on Lai getting the cold shoulder from US.

In response to the unilateral announcement by Japan and the Philippines
A necessary action to initiate negotiations on the delimitation of the waters east of Taiwan Island!

The Chinese Coast Guard vessel Daishan was positioned in the waters east of Taiwan.

Japan will fight to the last Philipino just as America will fight to the last Japanese-what a potential future mess-but solvable by China.
If you're wondering what this is about, this is the EEC announced by Philippines and Japan:

CCG is challenging it by putting their ships right in that area east of Taiwan.

Seen as DPP over in ROC isn't doing anything and instead CPC is stepping up and defending Chinese sovereignty, this inevitably draws comparison between ROC as it currently exists in Taiwan and Wang Jingwei's RNG during WW2. Even Taiwanese media doesn't have kind words for it:

Some of them take the view that "selling out" to Philippines and Japan like that brings benefit to Taiwan because in event of war they would have to get involved, that threat's OP's exact words "if there's war surely Philippines and Japan have to defend their territory, don't tell me its a case of if there's peace it's mine if there's war it's none of my business".

Others see right though it and answer "these days even US is reluctant to say they will get involved in AR, and you are pinning your hopes on Japan and Philippines?"

I think if Japan and Philippines escalates this thing has the potential to be a Pelosi type situation in that someone else made a move and China ends up slicing off another slice of the salami.

I'm pretty sure that's just how far the EEZ can go and not the PH's actual claim. CSIS is not accurate here.

This map is more accurate, though it's not formally settled

ROCA has no balls on SCS for decades; now it's just reached the end of the sausage-cutting process.

Moreover, the DPP is now in power. As the saying goes, "the son sells his father's land without a care in the world," they're willing to sell any outer islands or sovereignty as long as they can be their local tyrants on Taiwan.

If it weren't for the PLA keeping an eye on them, they would be perfectly happy to request a US military presence or even the deployment of nuclear weapons.

ROCCGA now criticizing PRC for defending Chinese sovereignty.

>Always talking about how ROC did bulk of the fighting against Japanese in WW2
>An opportunity arrives in present day to defend Chinese sovereignty against Japanese and Philippines
>Immediately act like Wang Jingwei regime

Well there goes that argument about ROC legitmacy.
