I disagree with this framing, because we knew for a fact that his name was removed from the AVIC website without any explanation.

If it was a retirement/transfer, someone as celebrated as him would've no doubt received honors/ovations (well deserved). Even if it wasn't a highly publicized retirement, there would be no doubt that the yankee/shilaos of the world would've been able to debunk any rumors of investigations.

By your logic, Qin Gang resigning from the public role of Foreign Minister without any follow on announcement of his improprieties (and subsequently reappearing publicly, as a free person, months after the initial 'resignation') would also qualify as 'we had no indications of impropriety for him to begin with'. Because, officially, Qin Gang was not investigated, nor was he convicted.

You may as well claim Qin Gang had a serious bout of disease, and resigned to a cushy/lower level role elsewhere. (Like, technically you would be right this is a *possibility*, but the *probability* is rather farfetched.)

Or, in a more recent example, in the case of Ma Xingrui, whose last official announcement was that he relinquished his role as the XUAR Party Secretarty, but still retains his title as a Politburo member. While he's not shown up to Politburo/official meetings recently, you can very well claim that he's deathly ill in bed, because, if we used the 'we have no official announcement of his impropriety' standard, there hasn't yet been any official announcement of impropriety. (I make a similar argument vis a vis *possibility* vs *probability*)

Yes you're absolutely right on this point.

However, as a separate point, I will say that because the Chinese/CPC system is well known for recognizing the

' - meaning that just because someone wasn't sentenced/convicted, it doesn't mean that said person did not do anything that would've been unacceptable if someone else did it - as we well know the contributions of Yang Wei, the 'bar' for him is very much likely higher than another person.

From this perspective, one can very much argue that someone like Yang Wei could've gotten away with more - and the result was a typical "高高举起, 轻轻放下".

PLA delegation is heading to Brussels for regularly scheduled EU/NATO talks. Probably won't move the needle on anything significant.

A delegation from China’s People’s Liberation Army will travel to Brussels next week for talks with the European Union and Nato amid

. The EU-China Security and Defence Consultations will take place next Tuesday, official sources confirmed, with the talks between Nato and the PLA’s Office for International Military Cooperation scheduled for the same week.

On the EU side, the talks will be chaired by Benedikta von Seherr-Thoss, managing director for peace, security and defence in the EU’s External Action Service, its de facto foreign ministry. A Nato official also confirmed that the PLA would meet representatives from its international military staff. “Nato and China maintain regular dialogue, on both civilian and military channels, to build reciprocal transparency with a view to safeguarding the alliance’s security interests,” the official said.

In addition, the information is worth more if it's not made public that it's known (at least if the buyer thinks so even if the victim knows he was hacked) and there's no need at all for an auction because there's no way anybody in the world would be more interested or pay more than the US government if the hacked data was real.

China unveiled the ATLAS strike system, which launches a swarm of drones. The ATLAS system uses ATLUSS-A140 drones from China Electronics Technology Corporation. The drones are launched from a SWARM II launcher at 5-second intervals and automatically locate their targets. It's worth noting that no air defense system in the world can currently counter a drone swarm. A single launcher can launch up to 48 drones of various types. Drones fly at speeds of up to 100 km/h and have a flight time of up to 60 minutes. Drone swarms represent a new stage in the development of drones as a new type of weapon.

The complete video actually showcased a whole offensive and defensive system.

They first demonstrated a swarm drone launch and control system, then a laser jamming and destruction system, and finally a series of robotic dogs for urban warfare, including unmanned tanks.

I feel like that was just a promotional advertisement.

Group Operations of China's L30 Maritime Drones. China demonstrated the first live training exercise involving a group of L30 maritime drones. The video was filmed in waters adjacent to Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. The maritime drones participated in patrolling, identifying, and intercepting intruders.
The unmanned L30 boat reaches speeds of up to 65 km/h and has a range of approximately 550 km.
The maritime drones operate as a unified unit thanks to their "collective intelligence"; if an intruder is detected, they are blocked. The system will eventually be scaled up, and the unmanned boats will operate alongside UAVs and underwater drones, forming a unified maritime surveillance network.
