They don't seem to he carrying plates. Neither do they have optics. Those two are the main force multipliers for modern infantry. I would rather have them equipped with the Laotian gear if that meant having plates and optics.

I tried to identify a list of the infantry gear present:

Equipment of PLA infantry:
  • QBZ-191
  • QSZ-92
  • Type 15 modular MICH (type) helmet
  • Type 19 ICS vest / plate carrier
  • Type 21 summer combat uniform

Equipment of Laotian infantry:
  • Soviet / Chinese AKM / Type-56 rifle (produced in the 1950s)
  • Vietnamese K-07 Woodland uniform (Made from local cloth fabric)
  • Vietnamese A2 helmet (Made from Polyamide Plastic, not bulletproof)
  • Chinese Type-63 combat chest rig (Used by the PLA in the 60s / 70s)
(Please tell me if I got any of them wrong)

The Laotians are fielding the Type 81 if you examine the stock, handguard, and barrel length.

I see, thought they where Type-56s since those seem to be the standard issue rifle of the Laotians
While the Type 56–2 does have the folding stock, the hand guard and barrel length are significantly different from that of the type 81. The 81’s barrel and gas tube are longer than the 56.

Because it is dependent on the training requirements. Since this is just a joint exercise to essentially train Laotian troops and enhance the relationship between the two nations’ militaries, there is no need to carry a combat load. Combat loads are heavy and can wear down a soldier’s knees to the point of long lasting knee injuries. There is a reason why every US infantry vet jokes about the VA and knee injuries. Plus, US troops don’t train with plates 24/7. They only do so in select exercises. As for scopes, if you have been following the infantry equipment thread at all, you know that the scopes are slowly but surely getting distributed. Given your post history, you should really etch this into your memory because you brought this so many times to the point in which I think you are just trolling.

That was said by a general back in the early 2000’s. He said that body armor reduces the fighting spirit of a soldier when that is just an asinine statement if you just talk to veterans from Iraq, Afghanistan and now Ukraine. There is a reason why the Russians (and most likely the Ukrainians) are buying body armor en masse. War isn’t fun and games. It’s a matter of life and death. All of this equipment is designed to make sure the soldier can have all of the necessary choices to survive and go back home.
Now I'm not a soldier, but to me it makes zero sense to make troops wear combat gear in a job like this where they're being instructors and partipating in ceremonies. It's like wanting a doctor to wear full ffp3 and sterile scrubs... While holding a presentation for students.

Whenever PLA operates and there is a requirement, all the troops are always very well equipped for the requirement. The only critique I've heard rumor about is that soldiers in peacekeeping missions were overburdened with heavy armor, and so China now has the lighter UHWP options that were praised by the forces in Ukraine war that could access them. Never heard an issue of a PLA soldier not having a scope or plates when they needed one.

Unfortunately, for poor countries like Laos, they can't afford to repeatedly train and practice their systems like their richer counterparts do. So, in this case, whenever PLA troops perform an exercise with Laotian troops, they can point out their mistakes and establish and teach them TTP's that Laotian forces don't have the time and money to develop.

I was just pointing out how the concept of armor reducing the "fighting spirit" was ridiculous, and clearly the PLA views it as ridiculous as well
