It's been over a month now, and I think things have cooled down a little bit in the real world and I hope heads here have cooled a little bit as well.

I will reopen this thread to discuss specifically about military topics and systems, however I will have a low threshold for closure if off topic political discussions re-emerge.

If sold and used, this is going to be revealing to the US and Israel. Maybe just a money making move and selling export variants but even then, it's going to be revealing of what the PLA counterparts are going to perform like. Precarious choice when no replacements have been fielded in PLA.

China should not sell weapons to Syria or Iran. The enemy of the enemy is not friends. The Middle East is complicated, selling arms to Syria or Iran could lead to tensions with Saudi Arabia and Israel, two major Chinese partners. China's economy is more than 10 trillion dollars, textile exports alone are greater than hundred billion dollars, China does not need several billion dollars to export weapons to create potential political enemies.

Depends who you're selling to and what you're selling. If we're trying to balance potential consequences with some pocket change profits, then the details matter even more. I think China actually aims to become another primary arms dealer like the Russians and Americans. It's a significant source of income and a political tool. Many nations are completely dependent and hostages of the US due simply to military reliance on the US for both weapons that can guarantee their security and often also for US military aid.

Of course being this way is not virtuous or something to be proud of at all. But China playing in this field means whatever few gains China gets or anyone who isn't the USA, basically becomes more free from US hegemony. Which is far more important and valuable to China than a measly few million. If it ever becomes a major arms exporter with billions in profits, then I can see China leveraging this influence to its advantage like the US does. Everyone needs to ween themselves off the MIC eventually but for China's case, its motivations are lessons learned from the 19th and 20th centuries. Lessons none of the European and American powers have experienced. So there's hope that China does not become the devil it used to be tormented by. Sorry still is tormented by.

Russia manages to have great relations and weapons deals with Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia AND Iran.

So why not China? Saudi and Israel are within US sphere of influence already.
