Osama Bin Laden has been killed

Maybe not because there has always been rumblings of negotiations with the Taliban. Now since Bin Laden is dead that might change.

Should this cause the AQ to splinter in a far less cohesive network, Taliban's position will be greatly harmed in terms of logistics, support and training, even if that not enough to make them fold, their bargaining position would be significantly weaken.

Yet, AQ have other leaders, it's yet to be seen how that'd hurt them in turn.

Interesting how this comes after a lot weird news coming out of Pakistan about wanting the US to leave and before mentioning Pakistan trying to maneuver Afghanistan away. Since it happened in Pakistan and the government restricts US military actions there, sounds like Pakistan might have just gave him up to expedite things. What I'm seeing reported is US intelligence could not have known without Pakistani intelligence telling them.

One of the fundamental "cause" for the US and its followers to enter and station at Afghanistan is "The AQ is there, and the Taliban support them."

I suppose since the Taliban "regime" has been decomposed years ago (No official regime anymore), and now the AQ boss has also officially taken care of... US and its followers can either continue to fight EVERY CIVIL WAR OF EVERY COUNTRY on this planet, for them... or US can finally pack home and start to use those "military money" on some domestic deficit issues.

Yes, US's domestical issues MATTERs, the rest of world is more inspired by the USA's economic "get the sh*t together", than THIS military victory.

But purely military-ly, this operation sounds awesome-ly conducted. An undoubtly a good job. It even can give some hard foundation for the next COD and/or MOH.

I just heard from CNN they mentioned SEALs wree sent in. But sadly war on terror isn't over. Just like when the US eliminated Admiral Yamoto in 1943 there was still a ton of fighting to be done

OBL was killed just north of Islamabad, which is quite a shocking development.

Details so far is that four US helos went in, apparently 1 crashed because of mechanical problems (not sure if this was before or after the op). The unit was on the ground for 40min, and egressed with OBL's body.

Reports that 3 people were killed in the op, none American. Apart from OBL, one of the dead was one of his sons, and the other was presumably a bodyguard. It is quite surprising that OBL was not better protected, but I guess secrecy was his primary defense.

It would be unusual for the CIA to be directly involved. They find the target and special forces go in to do the 'wet work'.

This is probably another smoke screen to justify some political actions that will happen soon. OBL was probably killed long time ago or still is alive (I personally favour the former one), but they still kept it under the blanket for future purposes.

In this case, I guess the Obama administration is probably going to se this as an excuse to the American people to pull out. The headline probably be somewhere along the line of terror removed, job done, ready to go home.

I really think it's much much more complicated than the news of "Ossama killed" itself. People think politicians are stupid, but it's actually the exact opposite. Those are all Ivy league educated elites educated to always plan years ahead of their time. This is what made America able to beat the once mighty USSR. Most of the time, we as average joes only see the surface, but usually there are much more than what we know. Those GPA 4.0 politicians (maybe not Bush) are just like our parents when we were young, smoothing out everything without us knowing or noticing about it.

Errr.... He wasn't found inside unadministered tribal areas of Pakistan, but only 51km from Islamabad.

Ghosh .... Osama had the COURAGE to hide just 51 kms from the Govt of Pakistan.

Anyway good that the damn bastard is finally dead. I rate him atleast at par with Hitler, if not worse.

There are many smaller-Osama's yet to kill, though.

Well i just watched on CNN that he was found in Amottabad? only 30km from Islamabad in a purpose built mansion thats 6 times bigger then the other compounds around it. I find it hard to believe that he could have been hiding there for 6 years without the government knowing, apparently the US found out he was hiding there because he used couriers to get info out and once they knew who the couriers were they watched them until there were sure he was in that building. It's certainly a good day for America that he is gone, I am just waiting for the pictures of his body to come out.
