I would say it's even less challenging than China's Manhattan project considering the level of industrial capacity and ability China has now compared to the 1950s/60s, not to mention the number of scientific papers China has churned out in recent years that is comparable to that of the U.S.
I'm guessing in a few years' time, the U.S. will more likely see themselves having really shot their own feet with their share of semiconductor business reduced significantly.
I hope you are right. The tik tok sale is forced by government level bullying. There must be an appropriate government level response, otherwise it sets a bad precedent. Chinese companies will be fearful of expanding beyond China and the public will resent the government for not backing Chinese corporations.
America will be emboldened to act with greater impunity.

Looks like it’s official but it won’t delete or for force uninstall ppl who already have them downloaded.
Essentially it is a ban since people can’t install patches or updates.
What worries (or amuse?) me is that somehow someone might create a TikTok video agitating American to vote out Trump as a response of this decision (so that we can enjoy TikTok again, yay!).
Remember that the TikTok created to troll the Trump campaign didn't come from a famous Key Opinion Influencer but a grandma. I saw her videos and the only famous video is that call.
Actually this is also the wonder of TikTok since now not being KOI does not mean you can not influence, if your creation gained traction, you are set. On one hand, this makes the platform more robust to KOI hijacking, by IG or Youtube for example. On the other hand, the black box nature might raise suspicion from paranoid NatSec folks.

lol, now the US government is becoming more and more petty. Just how long can they get and how much more can there economy take until is BTFO for good.
My prediction is that barring unforeseen circumstances the ban will be lifted once a “deal”, no matter how dumb it is, has been made. The ban is purely theatrics.
History will mark that officially on Sept 20 US is officially a banana republic. Can u imagine all the teenagers and their families discuss about this, or even Biden mentions this during a presidential debate lol
