Why, I can't see anything morally wrong with it.
A lab producing fresh meat in spacecraft engaged in inter planet, solar system travel, might be the only feasible way to ha e fresh meat served up as part of the weekly diet.

I wasn't so much thinking about morality, although the issues Vesicles has raised certainly made me aware of it, but rather the fact that we would *want* to eat lab grown meat.

I can understand if we lived in a spaceship or something, but given the choice, I would never choose lab-grown meat over meat from actual animals.

Some 53.1 million people in northern China have benefited from the country's massive water diversion project which has so far transferred 10 billion cubic meters of water from the south to the draught-prone north, authorities announced Tuesday.

The water pumped from the Yangtze River has gone to Beijing, Tianjin and the provinces of Henan and Hebei along the middle route of the water diversion project, according to the South-to-North Water Diversion Office under the State Council.

The middle route of the project carries water through canals and pipes from Danjiangkou reservoir in central China's Hubei Province. It came into operation in late 2014.

The project has supplied 2.7 billion cubic meters of water to Beijing, serving 11 million people.

Currently about 70 percent of Beijing's water supply comes from the project. The city's per capita water resources have increased from 100 to 150 cubic meters. Previously the city's water supply came mainly from underground water.

Tianjin got 2.2 billion cubic meters of water while Henan and Hebei provinces got 3.5 billion cubic meters of water and 1.1 billion cubic meters of water respectively.

Officials with the office said the project has played "an indispensable strategic role" in helping the north ease water shortage, improve water quality and ecology, build a resource-conserving society and prevent natural disasters.

Yeah, but not as happy as those cows not being bled to the edge of death...

In this day and age, people are giving cows beer and massages. Cows are pampered better than people. I don't think they would bleed their babies on purpose...

Just for interest sake, would just taking platelets through work? One could rig a system up where one takes the platelets from a cow during the milking process once a week.

It is an idea proposed by Chairman Mao in 1952. Study has been carried out ever since. Finally construction began in 2012. And not finally finished yet. It is really a project of 100 years when fully realized. To be honest, I don't see any other country that can carry out a project that spans a century.

Right they haven't finish it yet The one that is done is the eastern and middle section of the 3 canal But the western part will take another 50 years maybe It will be momentous undertaking with far reaching effect Imagine blooming Xinjiang

The western section will have some challenges as it passes mountains and high land. The map shows part of the plan connecting the upper part of Yangtze river and Yellow river. I believe with the increased volume of upper Yellow rive, the next step will be to connect Yellow river with Wei river which runs through the Guanzhong valley feeding one of the major population, agriculture and industrial lands in the western area. This section will also serve Gansu, Ningxia and western inner Mongolia.

Platelets are actually considered as contaminants in cellular work. There has been a continual debate over using either serum or plasma. Serum is the liquid part of blood after the blood is allowed to clot. Plasma is the liquid portion of the blood that has been prevented from clotting altogether. So plasma is closer to the original blood but is full of contaminants, including cells and platelets. One advantage of serum is that it is free of platelets.
