Came across the channel recently, started watching since there is some interesting content, but after watching and investigating more, some red flags popped up, and it gives signals of a potential (relatively well hidden) state sponsored channel. This could be potentially overthinking but it does merit some thought.
Being relatively unknown at first, he quickly gets big names like Sam Bankman-Fried, then eventually gets a few more like Ilya Sutskever, Dario Amodei, but he still stays relatively unknown. He then interviews US state dept China focused strategist, Sarah Paine. That video becomes his most viewed video.
Still a small youtuber, he recently got long form interviews with Zuckerberg and Satya Nadella. That was a bit of a red flag, how was he able to secure such long interviews with them? I believe that was Satya's longest recorded direct interview, and one of the longest ones for Zuck, minus the Joe rogan one.
Watched some more of his videos on China, some good, some meh and then I get to a video called Notes on China. Before this video, I didn't think too much of the channel but this really set of some bells. Specifically towards the end, in the section hearts and minds, it starts off a bit benign, but then goes into a scripted sounding spiel about how amazing Chinese people are, and how much they would be better not being under communism and are being held back. It was incredibly unlike his other interviews, and sounded forced.
When I took a step back, it seems like it could be a very well done propaganda channel. Not overtly direct, he even seems sympathetic to the Chinese people. The channel to me, attempts to build credibility with Chinese/all viewers by having guests that are well "informed" on China, in the sense they are often quite knowledgable on China. Not all of them are anti-China either. Then he comes out in one of his videos and pretty explicitly goes on a CCP/communism bad, Chinese people good rant, when in his interviews, he tries to be neutral seems very odd.
Recently, he's been popping up in a lot of my feeds, on different sites/apps, and it really feels curated.
This is what Democratic Party anti-China propaganda (especially from northern California) looks like. Give all the credit to the Chinese public and ignore the brilliant strategizing, planning, and execution of the government you're trying to undermine and eventually overthrow. Bait the hook for Chinese people who have pride in themselves and their peers, but who look down on, fear, and/or give minimal credit to their own government. It's a more sophisticated take on "we respect the Chinese people but are against the government". The reality is if China were a democracy in the 20th and 21st century, they'd be a completely infiltrated puppet state of the West. A mere shadow of its current self. With leaders that are all completely compromised and easily blackmailed. And policies that primarily serve Western interests.Came across the channel recently, started watching since there is some interesting content, but after watching and investigating more, some red flags popped up, and it gives signals of a potential (relatively well hidden) state sponsored channel. Interesting, its possible he's well known in the circle which explains his famous interviews, and I have no doubt he is a legit Youtuber, but its also possible he's simultaneously being boosted by the state dept. Again, just an observation.
Sure, reasonable. I'll delete my original post. This is relatively well maintained thread, don't want to derail it.He's a 25-year-old Indian guy from Silicon Valley, educated, articulate, smart but not wise, marketing himself as the next "young genius" explaining the wonders of technology to the masses. It's not hard to see why he became so popular. No need for conspiracy nonsense.
