When they're asked to reduce emissions it's not like we tell them to go back to medieval times. Just use a little more transit, drive a little less, build more sensible city layouts, have slightly smaller homes, eat a little less meat.

"NO. Our way of life is non negotiable."

Ok those terms are acceptable. No negotiations will be had then, they'll simply be forced to reduce per capita energy spend by poverty.

It's not about emissions per se. A grid which disproportionately invests in wind and solar as opposed to clean baseload like nuclear will suffer from intermittency problems. Coal is bad not just from CO2 but also from pollution, leading to early deaths. The good news is that such pollution deaths are declining in China, but they can and should decline faster.

Solar is still under 5% total energy consumption plus too weak in density per EROEI...

Would be more impressive if this was for fast breeders or other nuclear power
This was for offshore wind. Anyway solar and wind are among the cheapest sources of electricity. Don't buy the narrative of American conservatives.

Scrubbers remove most particulate and reactive pollution like SO2 and NOX. From a purely pragmatic point of view there's nothing wrong with burning coal if you ignore climate change. Natural gas isn't clean.

Isn't it convenient that any fossil fuel China uses is dirty and any fossil fuel they use is clean? What happened to no fossil fuel promises?

Impressive, but sometimes the wind doesn't blow. Need a massive nuclear buildout since the backbone of any system is the baseload. Nuclear should go to 50% or more of total electricity output so that coal can be retired. I'm hopeful that Fusion might become viable in a few decades time given rapid advances, though fusion has long had delays.
In China, they are now storing more wind and solar power. It does not depend so much on the weather.

Lab-grown/plant-based meat (and eggs) would help in food security which is probably the number 1 national security risk.

Every 5 year plan has placed agriculture/food at the top of its priorities.
We need to move to new technologies in order to finally solve this problem which has been a plague for China for thousands of years

Maybe the Chinese can help India on this issue?
