New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

Warren Buffet scored a bullseye on his investment on BYD.

BYD's blade battery must be the game changer product of the year.

Some question: is blade battery BYD's sole technology? No other company makes similar product? I ask because the hybrid battery inside the Lexus RX400h is a combination of 30 (12 + 6 +12) pieces thin batteries too.

it's not just the form factor, it's also the chemistry and safety engineering. BYD blade battery literally can get nailed (as in, a nail hammered into it) with barely a little heat. do not even think about trying that with any other battery unless you want to experience a face transplant.

I really want to see a load bearing structure made from these batteries.

If the engineers can get it to work economically, then I think Hydrogen cars is the way to go. In the meantime Airbus think they will have an eco friendly plane by 2035possibly powered by hydrogen or electric.

The video is good, but it doesn't mention ByD's newest cars.

One of them, according to the Electric Viking,

. This is a full-sized, 4-passenger car, not a tiny 2-passenger golf-cart in the $4000 price range.

This car has the blade battery, which is nearly perfect:
  1. Very safe.
  2. Long range: 500 km on a single charge.
  3. Quick charging: 30 minutes to go from 30% to 80% charge.
  4. Long endurance: 3000 charge cycles, or 1.5 million kilometers.
With the stunningly low price and the great blade battery, I think this car will be hugely successful throughout the world. A jealous US will probably sanction it for national security reasons.

I think Hydrogen is a dead end. Maybe its because I have watched so many engineers say that, that it has many disadvantages compared to electric.

Hydrogen needs to be taken from natural gas.
It consumes energy to convert natural gas to hydrogen.

Not necessarily. High temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR) are particularly suitable for hydrogen production. China is pushing ahead with with nuclear-powered hydrogen production, and decarbonization of steel and cement industries depends on hydrogen.

I still think hydrogen passenger vehicle is not a good idea, but it has more to do with safety than hydrogen production.

Supposedly hydrogen has a energy density 3X that of gasoline. Is there a future in hydrogen fueled ships and jet transports?
