More sign of BYD killing Japanese automakers
rumor to take over FAW/Toyota JV plant in Tianjin. I think this will be quite common place over the next couple of years. There is no reason for BYD to keep building new plants if existing legacy plants end up all getting sold really cheaply.

Xiaopeng Huitian officially announced today that the two-seat manned flying car independently developed by Xiaopeng Huitian, the Luhang X2, has officially obtained the special flight certificate issued by the Central and South Regional Administration of Civil Aviation of China. So far, the Traveler X2 has become the first manned eVTOL product in China that has applied for and been successfully approved. The authority has conducted the verification according to the relevant provisions and recognized that the Traveler X2 can carry out flight activities safely under licensed conditions

BYD's net profile jumped more than 400% in 2022. BYD is no doubt Tesla's closest competitor.

I guess 5G could give China's automakers tremendous advantage in the V2X technology.

CATL will invest $3.5 billion in the battery recycling business.

One man's loss is another's gain. After Virginia's idiotic rejection, Michigan now wants to get the battery factory.

I still don't understand why Geely can't just stick with a couple of brand. Zeekr seems to be doing fine and they should just have 1 higher end and 1 mass model brand for NEVs. That's plenty.

Sorry, I thought you said Geely should have MORE brands

It's definitely I'm china's interest to spoil Biden ira effort with workaround in battery tech. As soon as catl gain a foothold here, it would be hard for Japanese and Koreans to compete.

a little more on BYD
Looks like they are coming Myanmar with Yuan+ and the Yuan+ have arrived in Jordan. Should be ready to sell more this year.
I wonder while BYD is doing so well in many SEA countries, even a small market like Cambodia, but they do not enter Vietnam market for some reason. BYD used to sell products in Vietnam years ago but failed and retreated. They never come back to that market again until now. Do you know any reason?

Competition from Vinfast? Or Vietnamese government's protectionist policy?

I think none of the above. Vinfast does not look at its own domestic market seriously. It eyes at North American market. I feel like China is behind Vinfast in some form. For example, I believe if you disassemble a Vinfast electric car, you may find a lot of Chinese components. For your later point, there are many San Zhai brand-name cars being sold in Vietnam. So, I don't think there is any protectionist policy in Vietnam regarding EV. There must be something in depth which I don't know.

Vinfast will not succeed in the US. Terrible specs and not that price competitive.
