Here's an article about the Russians developing a new fifth generation single-engine fighter. A Saturn official states that China is also working on a single-engine fighter. Is he talking about J-10 or FC-1? But they aren't fifth generation so I assume he's talking something new.

A Single-Engine Fifth Generation Fighter May Be Developed in Russia
Along with the twin-engine fifth generation fighter, with whose development the Sukhoy company is involved, there may be created in the future a light-weight single-engine multirole fighter.
“We are convinced that such an airplane is necessary. And we will get to it without fail in the future. If we have a heavy twin-engine fighter appear and as a consequence of this it is expensive, then there also will be a single-engine fighter. Life nonetheless will force making such an aircraft,†the deputy general director of the Saturn Scientific and Production Association, Viktor Chepkin, declared. He noted that both aircraft will be equipped with one and the very same engine. “The U.S. has gone this route for a long time already. At first the make an expensive fighter, for example, the F-15, and afterwards, using the same engine, develop a single-engine fighter of the F-16 type which is less expensive, but therefore, more popular,†V. Chepkin said. He noted that the Chinese have the very same ideology. They are producing the twin-engine Su-27 fighter under license and there is their own single-engine F-X airplane.
According to V. Chepkin, “in USSR times we also were going over to the American concept.†“It is well known that in parallel with the MFI (the multirole tactical fighter), the LFI (light-weight tactical fighter) also was being developed,†he said.
V. Chepkin reported that the Russia Airplane Building Corporation MiG already has turned to NPO Saturn regarding the installation of the fifth generation engine onto a lightweight tactical fighter.
