New Chinese "F-X" single-engine fighter?

Here's an article about the Russians developing a new fifth generation single-engine fighter. A Saturn official states that China is also working on a single-engine fighter. Is he talking about J-10 or FC-1? But they aren't fifth generation so I assume he's talking something new.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Single-Engine Fifth Generation Fighter May Be Developed in Russia

Along with the twin-engine fifth generation fighter, with whose development the Sukhoy company is involved, there may be created in the future a light-weight single-engine multirole fighter.

“We are convinced that such an airplane is necessary. And we will get to it without fail in the future. If we have a heavy twin-engine fighter appear and as a consequence of this it is expensive, then there also will be a single-engine fighter. Life nonetheless will force making such an aircraft,†the deputy general director of the Saturn Scientific and Production Association, Viktor Chepkin, declared. He noted that both aircraft will be equipped with one and the very same engine. “The U.S. has gone this route for a long time already. At first the make an expensive fighter, for example, the F-15, and afterwards, using the same engine, develop a single-engine fighter of the F-16 type which is less expensive, but therefore, more popular,†V. Chepkin said. He noted that the Chinese have the very same ideology. They are producing the twin-engine Su-27 fighter under license and there is their own single-engine F-X airplane.

According to V. Chepkin, “in USSR times we also were going over to the American concept.†“It is well known that in parallel with the MFI (the multirole tactical fighter), the LFI (light-weight tactical fighter) also was being developed,†he said.

V. Chepkin reported that the Russia Airplane Building Corporation MiG already has turned to NPO Saturn regarding the installation of the fifth generation engine onto a lightweight tactical fighter.

I think he is referring to the J-10. The X could be a roman numeral, although I've never seen the J-10 written as J-X. I just don't hink this guy would be one to know something about a new secret chinese project that is single engine.

in russian terminology, 5th generation is equal to u.s 4th gen, which is equalt to chiense 3rd gen. so i guess it must be j-10.

I think I can just formally declare that this fighter is J-10 and close this thread. There are no other fighters in the Chinese service that I'm aware of that would fit this description.

Rats, I just realized that I do not have the permission to close threads, can another mod do this?

done... nvm
new evidence provided to me by a member
I saw that the topic on F-X was closed because of the perception that the article was referring to J-10, however, there have been articles stating that a single-engine stealth fighter design is in the works.

Other industry analysts believe that Chengdu could in time receive a contract to further develop only its single-engine stealth fighter design, as the Shenyang Aircraft Company has already been selected to head research and development efforts into a twin-engine heavyweight stealth fighter (JDW 11 December).

Needless to say, the topic started asking about an F-X single-engine fighter project doesnt necessarilly refer to the J-10.

Here are 2 photos of what might be the new Chinese "F-X". Or it could be the Shenyang J-16 that is rumored to exist(?) And the designation "JF-35" is also a guess - not mine of course, just repeating what I read about the project.

Here is a quote from the "Art of War" by Sun Tzu: Quote - "Oh divine art of subtlety and secrecy! Through you we learn to be invisible, through you inaudible, and hence we can hold the enemy's fate in our hands." End quote

Well according to Huitong its supposedly a 'steathy' flanker or at least based off it, so I doubt it is single engined.

Maybe the concept that Hui Tong refers to on his site as a "stealthy Flanker" was the actual concept Shenyang No. 601 had proposed to the PLAAF's "JXX" requirement - perhaps(?) And it was this that lost Shenyang the opportunity to develop and build the JXX (Hui Tong also states that this concept was designated as J-19)
There have been numerous reports from sources at Shenyang that they have already flown at least 15 test flights of a 5th generation fighter. So the single engine option fighter could indeed exist. The Google image above was taken in 2009.
The J-16 is a completely different aircraft altogether. But would a "stealthy Flanker" need a new designation - aside from J-11 or J-15? Its possible. In addition to the 5th generation aircraft, there have been several reports about something that is similar to or what has been termed "Silent Flanker" - now this is only a 3.5th generation aircraft (as mentioned by Hui Tong)

I have now seen a chart with several chinese military aircraft on it and it referred to an advanced Chendu J-10 as the "J-16A" - However, there are other aircraft on this chart that I cannot identify. Maybe it is the so-called "JF-35" single engined fighter (a 5th generation type), and something that looks like a cross between an F-111 and a Flanker (???). It is one of those things that make you go "Hmmm?!" to yourself. I would post this chart, but I do not have enough of quota left so I cannot post it - sorry
