In recent days we can see big flooding, firstly in Germany now in Henan, China. I think maybe it could have been better if we had a thread specifically for natural disasters.

These things will continue to happen and as such the building codes, infrastructure development, emergency plans should be updated to higher standards

Yea but that's where Supercomputers come in to predict flooding? Chinese is #1 in Supercomputers, at least one of them is dedicated to flood and weather forecasting?
On a related note, German Supercomputers did warn about flash flooding recently in a specific region with 90% confidence, but everyone basically ignored the warning.
Human beings and our sense of superiority, hubris can become own worst enemy.

Sometimes, you can have this kind of sudden "microburst" downpour. The weather pattern will show a storm coming, but the level of rainfall can be beyond prediction...
A few years ago where I live, there was a storm, suddenly a train (not even underground) became totally flooded in a valley and people were rescued by Zodiacs.
