I don't see a problem with Simu Liu and he doesn't really fit the "nerdy" asian stereotype. Who would you consider to be a good younger actor for this role?
Jackson Wang, he can speak English decent enough, knows martial arts, manly enough for the vast audience in China who prefers pretty boys but not too overly girly looking chump.

But like I said, I am sanguine on Simu Liu, he does have a certain appeal or star appeal that can grow on people, and his looks don't wear you down by either looking or searching for imperfections

Disney and other American studios refused to comply with cutting some scene that got denied the release in China and many other countries.

Walt Disney Co has been unable to obtain permission to show its new Pixar movie Lightyear in 14 Middle Eastern and Asian countries, a source said on Monday, and the animated film appeared unlikely to open in China, the world’s largest movie market.

A Lightyear producer said that authorities in China had asked for cuts to the movie, which Disney declined to make, and she assumed the movie would not open there either. The animated film depicts a same-sex couple who share a brief kiss, which prompted the United Arab Emirates to ban the film.
American films are largely used as their Trojan horse shit to inject countries their cultural nonsense that even their own people are rebelling against.

I mean, just look at the topic of What makes a woman, woman?

Soon enough, they'll make a movie about this nonsense and try to tell the world that a woman is for those who identify themselves as one.

Me!!

I'm definitely very tired of the "woke" nonsense that is being pushed down our throats. Notice that most movies produced now have female leads and usually she is also not white as with most of the other actors/actresses in the cast. If you want to promote equality that's fine but mostly the female lead is just a caricature of "masculinity" as they see it and mostly comes up as someone who is unreasonable instead of someone who does things because of her ability. And this constant pushing down our throats of "toxic masculinity" and demonisation of all things male. As for pushing "LGBTXEWRDUIEFXX.****" and the ever wider range of human "sexes" ..........I give up.
That's why that Asian character on the series (game based) Halo was so hated because she's entitled dumb prick, and we the audience are forced to root for her character all because she happens to be a female whiner rather than on any redeemable characters that can relate to the audience regardless of gender..

My gut says Simu Liu pulls off dramedy better than Jackson Wang and not being too monotone serious improves Shang Chi.

Frankly I think China is just screwing with American film studios with their demands for cuts. Removing the Statue of Liberty...? Americans think it's serious because they think the Chinese need to watch their movies when Beijing is just creating an excuse to not have them shown in China knowing they're not going to be cut out. Disney seems to get Beijing's ire the most. Hiring Chloe Zhao and Simu Liu who've made anti-China comments doesn't help because everyone knows if they shutting up now about how they feel, it doesn't mean a changed position. Since 20th Century Fox is owned by Disney now, it'll be interesting how the Avatar sequels will be received by Beijing.
