What...nobody wants to bother invading the gulf coast or the Mid-western states...LOL? C'mon it ain't that bad.:p

Yeah, Gulf coast is too boring for Hollywood. Nobody cares if someone invaded Texas... Well, Texas is its own nation anyways :p:p

Way to go, Ang Lee! his second best director nod. Life of Pi is an interesting movie to make. Both the smallest and the biggest movie to make. Small because it involves only one actor most of the movie, the ultimate indie film in a sense. big means its special effects are amazing. The CGI tiger is as real as it gets... IMO, it's better than Gollum since Gollum doesn't actually exist in the real world. You can make it like whatever you like. Tigers however are real things and people can spot it easily if you make one little mistake...

I rented DREDD on dvd last night and it was better than I thought. I have to say it didn't have the big stars like the first Judge Dredd movie with Sly Stallone and Sandra Bullock, but the plot and the action the latest one was better.

Wait, Sandra Bullock I the first Dredd? You sure you are not getting mixed up with Demolition Man? Since that is the only film with Stallone and Bullock. The original Dredd had Diane Lane. ;)

I've still haven't seen Lincoln or even Life of Pi yet. I was surprised to see the movie Argo win best picture, now it got me interesting to go see it. I thought Lincoln for sure will win it, but Daniel Day Lewis did deserve that Oscar for bets acting.
Life of Pi was a great movie. we really enjoyed it.

And Argo was fantastic, a true story done up very well. When depcited like this, in many cases, truth is more exciting than fiction...and sometimes even harder to believe.

Too many Americans armed in those areas. Heck, they had to go to Spokane, Washington for the Red Dawn movie because over in that eastenr part of the state its like the rest of the intermountain west...and armed camp and had some hope of a realistic depiction in that regard. but they were able to say it was Washington and a lot of the people presumed Seattle. Hehehe.

I got my hand on some Oscar screeners so this year I saw most of the Best Picture nominations. For some reason Argo wouldn't play so I didn't get to see it. All of my friends thought it wasn't deserving of Best Picture and it was just because Clooney and Affleck being so likeable in Hollywood, that's why it won so many awards. Life of Pi... it looked spectacular even though I didn't get to see it in 3D. Interesting how in this era of surprising twists in the end of movies, Life of Pi's doesn't get much attention. I guess because it's more spiritual in nature.

If this is true, the better. Not sure if the new Superman will be popular but a Justice League might suffer from newbies no audience has ever experienced.

The trend in Hollywood for people to get jobs on certain movies is to do a small film on what they would do. I saw one where the guy from The Hunger Games and the Red Dawn remake was lobbying to play the new Spider-Man. He did a film of a fight sequence in a warehouse with some wire work. Here's one that recently came out from someone who wants to direct Wonder Woman which Hollywood can't seem to figure out how to modernize her because let's face it... Wonder Woman was something for the time she was created. Today she looks weak compared to the modern crop of super heroes. If they change her then they'll definitely get the purist outraged.

IMO even though okay for action not good enough for a super hero.

Yeah I've heard about the Justice League movie but wasn't Christian Bale and Nolan calling it quits with Batman all together?(even if it's under a new franchise)

The studio already wants to reboot Batman which is way to soon.

DC kinda got burned when they "updated" Wonder Woman's look in the comic books a couple of years ago. She ended up looking like every other female police detective on TV. Some of the factors that add to the challenges of updating Wonder Woman for the screen is tone and setting and the actress that has to don the costume.(age/body type)

What I've been reading is JJ Abrams directing Star Wars was a game changer for the studios. Every studio is looking for a franchise to make movies. With all the interests from well-known prominent directors wanting to get in on Star Wars, studios want big name visionary filmmakers involved. Apparently the word is Christopher Nolan is being offered to take control of the DC Universe at Warner Brothers so he will be overseeing all DC comic movies.

Well, Bale never said it was definitive that he won't do Batman again. He even said he would do a 4th one if Nolan asked him.

I took five grandkids (ages 6 years to 12 years) to see, "JAck the Giant Slayer," on Saturday. It was a really fun and great movie. Some reviewers had indicated it was too "graphic," and not really for kids.

I did not find it so. Yes, the giants bit off the heads of some humans...but it never showed it happeneing, and the implicit before and after was not graphic...in some cases there was comic relief associated with it.

It was a classic farm boy turns hero and saves the Kingdom and the Princess and then marriers her and becomes king.

There were a couple of humorous, but a little crude, scenes with the Giants (one picking his nose, and one passing gas as he slept) that were meant to be humorous and in fact did get the audience to lauch at those times...but that was about as "bad" as it got.

My twelve year old grandson, who has seen Avengers, the Hobbit, the Harry Potter end movies, and numerous others with me (and enjoyed them all) told me it was the, "about best movie he had seen so far," with his Papa.

I'd recommend it for parents or grandparents taking kids.

Next up for us..."Oz, the Great and Powerful!"
