Here's my sleeper take. Give John Cho or Jung Woo Sung one run as James Bond 007. They deserve and are capable of it.
Sorry man...I say heck no to an Asian James Bond. I don't want to see an Asian man perpetuating the colonial relic and propaganda legacy of the British empire.
As for the Cowboy bebop role, they could have given it to Steven Yuen of Walking Dead fame, a fellow Korean-American just like Cho, and he's probably more popular and could have brought more fans/eye balls (subjective) to the show. How about Daniel Henney? He's maybe a half-Asian/Korean dude but he's also a pretty good looking dude that could pull some women demographic that could help the show.
Just jumping in but believe it or not I agree though for different reasons. James Bond is done. The 007 movies are today less and less connected to the Novels by Ian Fleming to the point where they are all but a complete rejection.
Every reboot since Connery has progressively walked farther and farther from the source material to the point where today it’s unrecognizable. To get to the source material though is unacceptable by modern culture. Bond’s behavior is rooted in a different culture of norms that belong to the 1940’s, 1950’s early 1960’s which would suffer a huge backlash by cancel culture. The only way to make an original Bond movie is to make a loyal to the novels. But that would first be a period piece set around a character that was designed to be unacceptable by modern times. A Chauvinist, alcoholic, Playboy, with self destructive behavior. I mean it would be a huge cultural shock as we move from a modern bond that had more in common with the Borne Identity to an actual Cold War Bond.
Otherwise it’s just rewarmed recasting of an established Bond take. Remington Steele or the Saint with a Bond Veneer. The Comedy and Camp of the Moore era, the Cold killer of the Dalton era, the Shave opulent of Brosnin, the Grit of Craig. From Sci-fi to Thriller about the only Genera Bond hasn’t been is a Horror movie or accurate to the Novels.
