They ejected two black state reps in Tennessee for protesting against guj violence.
"The two young Black lawmakers were ejected, but the third lawmaker involved, Ms. Johnson, a white Democrat from Knoxville, avoided the same fate by a single vote."
Lol
For all the hate and lies the US spews about china being undemocratic and authoritarian, it seems so befitting that they are the pure embodiment of authoritarianism through the guise of voting and democracy. Also Republicans hold such a tight grip over the state cause of gerrymandering. They can never lose.
This can be looked at two ways:
1) That Tennessee represents the racist white supremacist oligarchy of the United States.
2) That young black politicians love to LARP as 1970s civil rights crusaders to elicit boomer nostalgia.
Neither of which are conducive to social cohesion of the United States, and as the US declines, it becomes a fight between factions for more “gibs” be it federal funding, safe And secure jobs, placements in universities etc. It should be noted that Obama by being a good servant to the Clinton’s and powerbrokers in the US elite, pried open the door to power for his people could get in, answerable to him and his ilk. That’s why you’ll get blacks in high offices in USG but no material change to the well-being of black laity.
This is why I always make fun of Iranian liberal dissidents. They are extremely pro-West (to the point of being racist to non-Westerners, sounds familiar?) and they want to return the shah. And they think all of the other people who are against the Islamic government are like them. Which is almost tragicomical because they are actually a tiny minority. Other dissidents have nothing in common with them with the exception of their anti-theocracy position.
What sort of liberalism wants to restore an hereditary monarchy? Surely Mosaddegh would be a more suitable role model for "liberal dissidents"?
You’ll find that a lot of the Overseas Chinese communities are stuck in time because of the disconnect between the community and China proper. It’s a phenomenon seen in other expatriate communities as well. These Iranians probably still have values consistent with 1970s Iran when their parents and families fled Iran. When they go back to Iran or China in the case of these overseas Chinese, the Iranians and Chinese who stayed will remark at how conservative and out of date a lot of their mannerisms and ways of thinking are.
It’s not necessarily bad, it’s simply a feature of an expatriate group needing to reassert cultural identity in a different society, land and environment. You see this even in Australia where Anglo Australians have this idealised view of britain which resembles 1940s ChurchillIan England or 1990s tony blair UK and who try to mould Australia to fit that antipodean Ideal and achieving that by being inherently anti Chinese out of a fear of losing their British-ness.
Reminder that a couple of years ago, the MSS published warnings to Chinese to beware of American spies and spy infiltration methods, and the western press guffawed at this seeming ludicrousness. Seems there was a reason to be concerned after all, the five eyes are having trouble with HUMINT.
