Bolsonaro backer kills Lula fan as Brazilian election tensions mount

A supporter of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stabbed to death a backer of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, authorities said on Friday, in the latest example of rising political tensions ahead of the upcoming election.
The violence happened in the west-central state of Mato Grosso, after tempers frayed during an argument over support for the two candidates. Bolsonaro trails Lula in the polls in an election riven by intense polarization.
According to the police report of the incident, Rafael Silva de Oliveira, 24, killed Benedito Cardoso dos Santos, 42, by stabbing him with a knife. The suspect was taken to the police station, where he confessed and was charged.
Speaking with reporters in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, Lula commented on the stabbing, saying there was a "climate of hatred in the electoral process which is completely abnormal." Lula also suggested law enforcement should investigate whether such incidents "had been ordered, or guided, or if it is a political strategy." He did not provide any evidence to back up the suggestion of orchestrated attacks.
The president's office did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
In July, a similar incident occurred when a local official from Lula's opposition Workers' Party was shot dead by a federal prison guard shouting support for Bolsonaro.
On Friday morning, a Bolsonaro supporter was left with a head wound and said he had been assaulted by supporters of the Workers Party who were waiting for Lula to arrive at an event with evangelicals in the city of Sao Goncalo, in Rio de Janeiro state.
Bolsonaro, who has long railed against Lula and his allies, has floated the idea of not accepting any election loss, citing claims of election fraud and problems with Brazil's widely respected electronic voting system.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency on Friday after samples of the polio virus were discovered in wastewater in three counties outside of New York City.
Hochul's executive order came more than a month after an adult in Rockland County, north of New York City, was diagnosed with the disease in July. It was the first confirmed case of polio in the United States in nearly a decade.
The declaration would expand the number of people authorized to administer polio vaccines and other steps to accelerate inoculation rates. The state of emergency will stay in effect until October 9.
The polio virus was present in wastewater samples collected as early as April, Hochul's executive order said.
Virus was detected in wastewater samples taken in Orange, Rockland and Sullivan counties every month since April, indicating the virus was present in the state before the Rockland County case was found in July.
After the disease was detected, New York officials began urging unvaccinated residents to get polio vacations. While people of all ages are under threat, the virus primarily affects children aged three and younger.
Polio can cause irreversible paralysis in some cases, but it can be prevented by a vaccine first made available in 1955. There is no known cure. Three injections of the vaccine provide nearly 100 percent immunity.

Strong hit to the USA, means no more iPhones for everyone so really, this isn’t a case of USA win but rather both sides lose but eventually it will be Chinas win when China makes their own alternative phone with more advanced chips while the USA simply sanctions itself into having no more phones.

China doling out subsidies to companies and having state owned enterprises is called unfair trade practices. We should all shrink government intervention and let the holy free market does it work in the Global South while they guide their own economy through a government hand. Chinese regulation is called cracking down. China defending her interest is called coercing.
