He brought Pizza Hut to Russia.
Ironically today Pizza Hut has left Russia due to a war that was also the result of what he did, so really he brought nothing.
For anyone who is interested, here is Gorbachev in a legit Pizza Hut commercial in Russia.

It's mindboggling how stupid this man is. Pizza Hut left Russia after NATO tried to absorb your sphere of influence/ex-Soviet republics. You can't make this shit up.

It's true, but Sino-Soviet relationships was already recovering by the time he was in charge. Plus collapse of Soviet Union has a lot of negative on China too. Overall I say jury is still out if you look at it from purely Chinese perspective and definitely way negative from Russian perspective.

Hell once upon a time Ukraine could build things like Varyag and An-225, now they're down to exporting wheat and women.
If I could go back in time and assassinate Gorbachev, I wouldn't do it. I don't think it's even arguable that the collapse of the USSR was a net positive for China. China sucked a lot of engineering talent from Ukraine and procured a lot of military tech they otherwise wouldn't have been able to procure from Russia.

Now obviously the USSR collapsing was a negative for Russia, but I don't care about Russia.

August 31, 2022

WASHINGTON – United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai held a virtual introductory meeting today with Japan Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Nishimura Yasutoshi. Ambassador Tai congratulated Minister Nishimura on his appointment before they discussed the upcoming Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Ministerial in Los Angeles. The Ministers also welcomed progress in the areas of labor, digital trade, and cooperation on third-country practices of concern, among others, made during the second round of the U.S.-Japan Partnership on Trade meetings held last week.

Ambassador Tai and Minister Nishimura reaffirmed ongoing collaboration to address non-market policies and practices, including economic coercion, and shared commitment to respect internationally-recognized worker rights, including eradicating forced labor. Ambassador Tai and Minister Nishimura agreed to stay in touch and look forward to meeting in-person next week.

Getting rid of Gorbachev wouldn't have made a difference, another one would take his place and do the same thing.

The Russian people themselves were dumb enough to believe that the only reason the west opposed them was because they were communist. They were considered enemies of the west because they had the power to stand up to them.

The only way Russia can be accepted by the west is if they give up all their nuclear weapons and become another puppet state like Poland.

Is that even a threat? lol
Let them "counter-attack". Send the Coast Guard in their waters and if they dare to shoot at it, mobilise public and international outrage and start the AR.

Nobody (probably not even the US and its puppets) can excuse sinking a non-military ship of another country and killing dozens/hundreds of sailors.

the cpc and the cpsu both had liberal factions and conservative factions. the soviet conservatives were led by ligachov and backed by chebrikov and yazov, who essentially argued that the party should remain in full control, and the economic reform was going too fast, and then Yeltsin as the super liberal. CPC had the Eight elders as the conservatives and Hu yaobang and Zhao ziyang as the liberals.

If Gorbachev had the intelligence of Deng he would have seen the need to slow down and cut the liberals off, and suppress protests if necessary. major economic reforms are always painful for the public and a bad economy always causes all kinds of unrest, but he didn't see that.
