Today China's annual fishing ban ends. Expect the vast fishing fleets to roll out today.

Given the stirring in Japan with the unusual amount of temple visits we may be seeing some action today or soon around Diaoyu Islands. After the Olympics there's a lot of political instability in Japan and the temple visits are meant to install internal unity (ie it's sorely lacking at the moment), and this could manifest in confrontations.

All we can say about the Chinese, is the CCP demonstrated some more foresight, when a Taliban delegation was hosted in Tianjin.

That is the real interesting part.

The Chinese had no idea what was really going on. It was a war, and it is the fog of war. Yet, they made the right move, and the best move.

The Americans were occupying the countries with collaborators, and it went FUBAR.

China does not want to approach whatever challenges Afghanistan may present to the region alone, China wants everyone onboard. There will be a collective effort to Afghanistan in the neighbourhood.

The Americans out, everyone else in, to create the win-win outcome for Afghanistan and the region.

:D:oops:
Recall immediately after then Tianjin visit MFA issued a warning telling all Chinese to leave Afghanistan immediately. Pretty sure Taliban told them in Tianjin that the country wide campaign is coming.

English Cabbage take notes.

Not just the English Vegetable, all the Taiwan independence lot as well.

Taliban should not let them out.

This is war. The enemy must surrender unconditionally.

Why let them run away and regroup?

This is still a civil war.

:D

Let's hope the new Taliban has mellowed, and the defeated will only be sent to re-education camp.

It's not just Afghans, there's a lot of foreigners stranded at the airport as well.

I think you are vastly underestimating China’s ability to collect accurate intelligence in neighbouring countries. I would say China had better and higher quality intelligence of what it was like in Afghanistan than the Americans and all their allies.

My take on this is that you are seeing early fruit of the Sino-Russian Strategic Partnership. The US was at the height of its Unipolar moment, twenty years ago and able to to buy or bully access corridors into the country.
That time has passed and I have no doubt that the US/NATO was told in no uncertain terms to get our while it could as the corridors were about to close for ever. Turkmenistan is now joining the CSTO and so that route via Turkey and Georgia is closing. China can now back up Pakistan and close that route in. The US is hardly going to get a route from China, Russia or Iran, so that is game over.
The Regional powers are now much stronger than they were and working in full co-ordination. It has been a game changer.
I just looked at the map to better grasp your explanation, and the map gives strong cue to your sound analysis :D

I'm still trying to figure out why the US is so willing to cut and run from Afghanistan in such a pathetic manner. The main reasons that come to mind is that Biden wants to be remembered for something during his presidency. Or, the US think its allies will be more able and willing to join its fleet build up to counter China if their allies are not spending their resources on Afghanistan.

The US is reorienting it's assets for a conflict with China.

I don't know where else to post this but in light of the Taliban retaking of Afghanistan and the U.S. looking like a bruised and battered wife from this event I thought that the discussion posited here by Gen.Wesley Clark (ret.) 11 years ago along with his analogous commentaries on Vietnam War with Afghan was to a large extent pretty telling.

Please watch the video beginning in 1:03:00 onwards. I want the people on this forum that are way more knowledgeable on these subjects than I am to assess the man's comments in light to what's happened now.
