According to the article

“Japan is the only country in the world that has been hit by atomic bombs. It has a deep memory of this from the government down to the people,” a transcript of one of the videos reads.

“Nuclear deterrence against Japan will get twice the result with half the effort.

“By singling out Japan as an ‘exception’ to our commitment not to use or be the first to use nuclear weapons, we are warning Japan and informing the world that if Japan interferes militarily in our domestic affairs – including the unification of Taiwan with the mainland – nuclear weapons will surely be used against them.

“They will be used continuously until its unconditional surrender. There will be no peace talks.”

I agree, once japan declare it will interfere in taiwan, NFU should not be applied to them
It also a great way to ensure that usa never placed nuclear weapons on japanese soil

"Japan’s new “forward defense” posture, where it would fight China in Taiwan to preserve the sovereignty of the Senkaku Islands, however, appears to put nuclear weapons back into the equation, and not at the initiative of the United States. Moreover, if China is serious about the “Japan Exception Theory” (and there is no official statement from the Chinese authorities suggesting for a moment that they are), then a nuclear conflict will automatically be triggered by any Japanese military intervention on behalf of Taiwan.

In short, the US is no longer in control of how and when it would use its nuclear arsenal. Japan is."
That is why China should weaken Japan's economy, especially its car industry. It looks like unrelated, but that could weaken the few industries that Japan can still make some money for their military.

japan automotive industry is increasingly uncompetitive against south korea, here in australia honda is considering exiting the market due to poor sales, hyundai and kia is increasingly eating japanese market share worldwide
japan can't even compete against south korea What else does japan excel at nowadays? Mobile phones? Tv? Its all samsung lg and tcl
Shipbuilding? China and south korea takes the top spot
The only thing China needs to do is to really produce world class EV vehicles and dominate that market, then its curtain for the japanese
