History tells us these type of US-sponsored operation are not unusual, specially in South America.

Exactly, as far back as the great white fleet. US has treated Latin America as it's own back yard. It even told other foreign (European) powers that is, in fact their turf, and they should stay clear if they know what's good for them. From Chile to El Salvador, from Panama to Cuba. US will have an hand in "shaping" the country.

It is not a criticism. (Although I could easily have done so). It is just an observation, which even the most hard line of US foreign policy supporter would have difficulties in denying. So it is quite entertaining to see some members here doing mental gymnasts with regards to US foreign policy!

Sorry guys but if you think this reads like an official op you have been smoking the same thing the planners were!! This is farcical. Planes by someone who had no resources.
They even had their passports on their person when captured. Unencrypted devices to. Amateur hour. They were infiltrated from the start, pretty much announced on Twitter they were doing this.

I dunno, plausible deniability, I guess. Pretty much all of Trump's press statements read far from what you'd expect from an official US president and America's entire handling of the pandemic has been a farcical amateur hour. In 2015, I'd have said it's impossible for the US to end up in the state it currently finds itself in in 5 years, so who knows what the new norm for the competence level of American "official ops" are?

Can you show proof of the Tweet you are referring to?

Most likely you are misinformed.
This is the first Tweet admitting on the incursion, a day after the actual failed invasion. It was already publicly known that the operation was failing. It is not much of an announcement and more about trying to get the attention of Trump.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 3, reports began to surface on Twitter of military activity out at sea off the coast of Macuto, a small city on Venezuela’s coast just north of Caracas.

It is the afternoon of Sunday, May 3, 2020, and Goudreau is confirming that a botched attempt to infiltrate Venezuela with a team of expatriate soldiers (and later, two U.S. citizens) on a hopeless mission to topple the government of President Nicolas Maduro is his doing. By the time the video was first shared on Twitter,

of Goudreau’s men were dead and two others captured as the boat they were on was intercepted at sea by the Venezuelan authorities.

On the evening on Sunday, May 3, the Silvercorp Twitter account

that a “strikeforce incursion” into Venezuela was still underway despite the losses earlier that day. The tweet also revealed that two members of this strike force were U.S. citizens, while also trying to get the attention of U.S. President Donald Trump:

If the reports of the CIA attempting to wave off the coup attempt was true, then I would take that as indirect confirmation that this dumpster-fire of an op was green lit by the US government.

The CIA are not Johovice Witnesses, you cannot fob them off by pretending you are not home or simply ignore them when they come knocking.

If Silvercorp ignored the CIA when they were asking nicely, they would have had real current-serving door kickers kicking in their doors for foreign facilities, and all the US alphabet agencies raiding their domestic US locations after a few phone calls from Langley.

The only reason way that doesn’t happen is if either the CIA thought the plot might work (which surely they could not possibly conclude that given how ridiculous the plan was); or if the plotters had someone high up in the US government covering for them.

Normally, it would be hard to credit such dysfunction within the US government, but the Trump administration is no normal administration. It has already done, and is continuing to do plenty of things people would have not believed if it was in a work of fiction before his presidency.

The involvement of Trump’s bodyguard would put this pretty much on par with the kind of hair-brained, off-the-cuff, poorly thought out and worse executed schemes the Trump administration is becoming infamous for.

I believe it when the likes of the CIA and Pentagon are saying they would not have been responsible for such a farcical op, but that does not rule this out from being an officially sanctioned US op nonetheless.

The entire Trump administration is pretty much made up of people who got their positions because of personal and/or ideological connections rather than actual competence, experience or suitability. There are countless examples of people being appointed to roles or assigned tasks they were manifestly and obviously out of their depths in handling.

As such, it is entirely in keeping with his Presidency for Trump or one of his senior officials to have made the call to green light this op based on the big-headed bragging of some ex-special forces blow hard who got a meeting through a personal connection, especially if Trump was getting resistance/pushback from his own military and intelligence offices (aka the deep state as Trump likes to call them) to mount a similar op.
