But Chinese self-hating is just off the chart bro. I swear I see more Chinese self-hate more than other nation combined in my entire life. You go to Xiaohongshu, Zhihu, etc and nobody dare to say they love China there. It's like loving China is a sin.
People behave differently online than they would in real life.
China isn't without its share of social and economic issues, so of coure the internet becomes the place to vent for the disenfranchised and the vocal minority.
Having a deep affection for one's motherland is the default 'factory setting' for the overhwhelming majority of Chinese people (in my experience at least) that it would be somewhat odd for one to trumpet how one loves China on online forums. Then there's the thorny and somewhat muddled issue of whether 'loving China' automatically equates to 'loving the Party'.
Don't take anything anyone says online too seriously.
