What's the law? Can you post it? I have a feeling that the point is to stop people from getting divorced from heated arguments and give them further time to cool down and think. If they are truly incompatible, they will complete the difficult procedure because that is the rest of their lives.

They marry for love and for trust. Typically, when one marries, s/he is over the moon with confidence in the potential spouse and with excitement for their new lives together. There is no doubt because in agreeing to the marriage, she strongly believes that the divorce statistic will forever be a number they read in the news and nothing more, so the thought of how easy it is to divorce is not a factor in consideration.

When my wife and I got married, the law could have been that you get beheaded if you get divorced and we would have signed the contract without a second thought.

They have the collective attitude and traits of antisocial personality disorder and/or psychopathy as well as narcissistic personality disorder as defined by the The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Fully agree with this.

But the first step is the Police and the government need to stop seeing this as a "domestic problem" and therefore reluctant to step in. They need to seriously see it as a criminal issue. They need to actively intervene. If the Police tell them to follow the usual divorce route, this is as good as doing nothing, the abuser will often never agree to the divorce, making the divorce ten folds harder.

And for the anti-corruption campaign, it is certainly successful on the macro-level. But for very localised levels, they need to step up their game as well. If one side of the family have strong connections to the Police, the other side might never get the required help. I'm talking about tier 3 cities and below, hope this will be completely eradicates in due time.

There's a good reason why im particularly interested in speaking up about this topic, where I could've spend the time on ranting about 004's (lack of) balcony.

That's fine but that's a separate issue. If you said that Chinese law should view domestic abuse as a criminal offense rather than some private quarrel, there's no disagreement. But you said that China's new divorce law is "dumb" because it makes divorce more difficult without stating what it is, we might have a lot to discuss and potentially argue about. The law isn't that domestic violence is now no longer considered criminal, is it?
