Looks like China is going gloves off with the rare earth retaliatory measures. Not an unexpected move given it’s the play book the US has long used against everyone else.

Secondary sanctions, let's go.
Personally I prefer if Korea refuses and China kills them off along with the US.

:p

Even though we should not bash the Koreans all the time, but in this case, they blew it royally.

They should have chose China. Since they were noncommittal, and the world being what it is right now, not something that was unexpected, now they find themselves in a very weak position.

The South Koreans are going to get it from the Americans, and the Chinese ignore their concerns because they ignored China.

The South Koreans maneuvered themselves to get it from both ends.

This is the question, or questions. What is Japan going to do?

They seem to be more unwilling to concede everything to the Americans in their trade talks according to their PM. Then China is taking a much more hard approach lately to the island dispute.

Seems to me, does not matter how they chose, either way will probably work for China.

Get friendlier with China and then South Korea and Japan then all three can all work together for the future.

Show strategic confusion, and since Chinese industry is a direct competitor to South Korean and Japanese industry, maybe China will make a determined effort to wipe them out in the RECP market zone.

Excerpt from the article

Nam Sung-wook, a professor at the Graduate School of Public Administration at Korea University, said a chain of Chinese structures in the Yellow Sea could ultimately obstruct South Korean or Korea-based US naval vessels from accessing the East China Sea in the event of a conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

That's the key. Korea won't be able to help the US in this event. That's why they are making such a fuss now.

China is doing what's within their rights. South Korean media and the PPP party has been demonizing china for over a decade. They follow what the US wants them to think. Now they are bending over for Trump's tariffs and it fighting back.

In 2018 Donald Trump said that he met with Xi and said that he didn't know Korea was once part of China. There's no way Xi ever said that, so it was likely just Trump's uneducated summary. But the Koreans were mad with anger.

However a few days later, when talking about north and south Korea rapproachment, trump literally said that "south Korea can't do anything without our say so" to a large US crowd. What was the Korean response to such a blatant disregard and condescending messaging? Crickets......

I suspect much of Korean media are controlled by US interests.

China is downplaying this fishing issue because to China, there's little South Korea could do. They already hate China. Yet they make money from China and need Chinese supply chain.

Make them choose between Chinese rare earth or their "pro US values"

"French President Emmanuel Macron says that the euro will replace the U.S. dollar as the global currency."
Euro is already to a certain extent reserve currency due to free flow of capital with Mideast. No one spent on French culture like Gulf.
Gulf Monarchies may even back Euro enhance status to test what Europe is capable of doing with reserve currency. These people always give long term acquaintance many chances. but the problem is how long this can last when primary force is demographics. thats why Arabs ousted France from primitive business of Africa and to concentrate more on tech and inside Europe. Obviously Gulf knows or understand some thing about France that Macron unable. All these hard and soft approaches towards him are based what they know about him. When Macron gave that long interview about AI in 2018 he not even mention the Gulf regarding AI but 6 years later the biggest investor in France AI and that the rest of AI conference was about Arabs. to molify him regarding Africa they sent him to a Saudi village.

I was long waiting to see when will China really get serious about rare-earth. Looks like they have just started.

Rare earth is just the one of China's weapons, fundamentally this is the first instance of China openly stated intent to engage in secondary sanctions, a strategy that opens the door to a lot more options than just rare earth. As it turns out when you control more than half of planetary industry by volume, you have a lot of cards.

This whole visit was about Soft Power not talks. you can see him in traditional cloths on long walk in Kremlin and the ceremony in Muscat before flying to Moscow. that is Arab old tradition. there many other visuals that all related to Soft Power. how this Sultan accumulated so much soft power. you have to look at his State or history like Yemen or Baloch. this is real soft power not related to Wealth like UAE or religion in Saudi.
