600 million Chinese making less than $150 a month is just false. Maybe it is included retirees and those that don't work or using a single income household that got divided by the total household members . For anyone in China who have a real job even for those poor inner provinces, 2000 to 3000 yuan is the minimum wage for them.

Foxconn actually offers better wage for workers making Huawei phones at $3.6 per hour. However, it is important to point out that for Foxconn the signup bonus and overtime compensation are far more important than the hourly wage.

There is a huge improvement over the last few weeks as companies have started hiring again and tourism is flourishing. The problem is youngsters don't want a factory jobs so there is a skills mismatch in the Chinese job market.

I do agree with you that many illegal immigrants do make more than minimum wage. However, majority of them especially those from central Americans don't make minimum wage due to supply and demand. As more illegal immigrants come to the US, the wage has actually gone down.

You have way outdated numbers. LA/SF/NYC would roughly compare to Shenzhen in China, and in Shenzhen, workers at Foxconn, or more comparably a restaurant worker, will make about 6K a month with room and board. (Almost all low paying jobs in China include room and board)(Foxconn also include China's 5 insurance and housing fund) 6K in Shenzhen would be a much better life than 2K ~ 4K in SF/LA/NYC with room and board.

You do know that there are sanctuary cities/states like california that even encourage illegal residents to get a drivers license, enrol there kids in school and get food stamp/medicare? Live in a non-sanctuary state? Buy a stolen social security number and you are legal to work.

BUt rent cost? People live in cheap rental rooms or the restaurants/factory/feet massage parlor etc has "corporate" housing, just like in China. The point is to make money and save money like nearly every other poor Chinese person.

40, not 50, million Chinese outside China includes all ethnic Chinese including 25 million Southeast Asian Chinese who barely have anything to do with even the ROC, much less the PRC. The last time they or their genetic ancestors were in China, Emperor Guangxu was on the throne. I mean let's get the facts right.

Are you saying that Mexican visas are particularly easy for Chinese to get too? Because that's the only way to do what you said - fly to Mexico, then jump the border.

Yet Mexican visas require iteniary, proof of financial capability including employer paystubs, and to be applied for at the Mexican embassy or consulate, and to have an interview. They're not going to issue a visa to a penniless Chinese guy that doesn't know Spanish.


The cost to fly to Mexico is $3000 one way. Of course you'd never be able to buy this as that would make it so that you can't get the visa. You'd need to waste money on a 2 way.


20k RMB cash for someone earning as you claim 20 RMB per hour?

And if they borrow money, what's their collateral if not slavery? Not like you can take out a loan for illegal immigration from a bank.

No Foxconn worker works on standard hour only, they get overtime pay at 2-3 times the rate depending on when they worked overtime.

Also, read your own article, wages are down because lower demand from Apple, and it does not mean it will stay that way. Your article was from April 2023, and I checked today, the rate is 22-25 rmb per hour during 试用期, and 5500-6500 per month afterwards, also, foxconn provide free room and board.

So a guy at Foxconn with the literal job title 'laborer' with only a high school degree, is being hired at 65k RMB to 100k RMB per year, with none of the risk and upfront cost that illegal immigration would entail.

What does 50 million (a tiny fraction of China's total population btw) of which a large portion if not the majority are descendants of overseas Chinese who may not even be from the PRC to begin with matter to our discussion? Show me the illegals lol.

I'm asserting that a specific type of illegal immigrant claimed by unreliable US state sources but without picture/statistic proof or US higher government confirmation is a lie. That being those who fly to south America and then walk all the way into US. When the US state media makes a sensational claim like that, the onus is on them for showing that they actually have these illegals. Ive never said that there's 0 overseas Chinese nor that there is nothing to be gained outside of China for any Chinese, so you can drop the pointless fact twisting about arguing for those points.

For once, if you want to go to US illegally, by plane or by boat directly, through overstaying your tourist VISA, is by far the path of least resistance. And either the number of such people is low enough to slip under the radar, or US is completely incompetent at catching them. Because if illegals existed in the extent state media claims, it would be a huge PR coup if US regime could catch them.
