China and Uruguay forge partnership for a sustainable future
Renewable energy plays a pivotal role in advancing the environmentally conscious development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Notably, Uruguay emerged as one of the initial Latin American nations to become part of the BRI. Omar Paganini, the Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining in Uruguay, delved into the prospects of future collaboration between China and this South American nation.
He mentioned that Uruguay is now China's number one customer, and the exports to China have duplicated since Uruguay joined the initiative. Regarding energy, he called Uruguay a leader in green energy sector among other Latin American countries as around 90% of its industry is already using green energy sources.
