Once the CCP has issued "unofficial" directives, no international education agents would dare to violate that order
Chinese students brought a staggering $10.5 billion to australian universities
Money better spent at home in China
Typical western arrogance and ignorance at work. It’s always something the big bad CCP is hatching, it’s impossible that ordinary Chinese families are look at all the blatantly racists policies Australia is adopting towards China and deciding, you know what? Fuck those guys, we will sent our child somewhere where the government and people don’t actively hate us and discriminate against us for who we are.

A big part of the allure of sending children abroad to study is to open the possibility for them to stay and make a new life there if they want, it’s about giving them options. Racist countries just want the money from Chinese students and wants them to F off as soon as they have been squeeze dry. No jobs or citizenship for you! Even the few exceptional people who do manage to land jobs despite the Australian government government’s best efforts needs to effectively sever all ties with China, and loudly condemn and decry everything China does whenever a white man asks for their ‘opinion’, else be accused of ‘disloyalty’ and being ‘Chinese agents’. Meaning only self hating racists and traitors are likely to thrive. What parents in their right minds want to send their children into such a toxic environment?

Ignoring your entirely unsubstantiated and rather disgusting aspersions against Jamal Khashoggi, what made his murder shocking was the fact that a foreign US-allied leader (MBS) ordered the murder of a US resident journalist, and the method of his execution (his body has still not been found).

Police violence leading to a low tier criminal is also disgusting, but George Floyd's killing receive huge attention in the media and in mainstream discourse - has the far more shocking killing of Khashoggi had the same effect?
Jamal Khashoggi did not deserve to be killed and vanish without a trace. This much is true.

I think J17wang is saying that journalist by profession are taking risk when reporting negatively on powerful people. Journalist like Jamal knows that they are taking risk when they offend powerful people and hence are not totally ignorant and innocent of this professional risk.
Both killings are equally reprehensible. But unfortunately, the western media gets to dictate the intensity of coverage and expected outrage based on western interest.

In the case of Jamal Khashoggi, the western interest is not to offend MBS too much. MBS is still a useful actor for western interest.

In the case George Floyd, the western interest is to manage the outrage resulting from irrefutable evidence. Hence, the mainstream media had to cover the atrocious murder and manage the narrative to show token outrage. In the end, nothing had fundamentally changed and outrage has been successfully managed.

It’s kinda happen right now with the covid but this is going to happen in the future anyways given that no one in China wants to end up like the Chinese CFO right now and the USA is driving Chinese people away from the USA with the aboriginal Chinese policies. I am interested to see how this plays out

China has warned against students studying in the US since 2019. Don't think China issue any warning for Canada.

Due to the pandemics and fear of racism, the number of Chinese students applying for the US, UK, Canada, and Australia universities have been decreasing. It isn't just Australia. UK and Canada recently also hint that they would crack down on Chinese students that study in STEMs so not sure how it would affect them.

I think Australian universities probably more rely upon foreign students than other countries so you see so many reporting. The US has deported over 1000 Chinese students including exchange students and Chinese government sponsored students. However, many students would still go aboard to study even with the Chinese government warning. But younger generation of wealthy Chinese or the best and brightest would probably need to take the recent spike in hate crimes into consideration when studying aboard.

If the middle east don't want to sell oil to China, russia will be more than happy to swallow their market share and russian oil don't have to go through sea to reach China
Unless biden can also somehow persuade russia not to sell energy to China, which is very unlikely me thinks
Middle East really only got China and India and Europe as markets. Without China l, there goes 1/3 of their revenue. For countries that are barely hanging on due to low oil prices, losing their biggest customer would hurt.
