The electricity and gas bills are on fire in Piazza Matteotti in Naples: «We cannot pay and we are tired of empty promises. Meanwhile, the costs are three times higher than before. We are in the square to demonstrate the worsening of living conditions and precariousness, the increase in bills and the prices of all food and non-foodstuffs, in a context of escalation warlike, energy and climate crisis.
Many unemployed people are tired and exhausted, including those unemployed who, due to a conviction in the last ten years, also have their citizenship income stolen.»

Unless I'm seriously underestimating the stupidity of the entire Japanese leadership, Japan would not directly intervene as well. The Japanese military top brass, and the National Diet should attempt to stop the LDP's drive to go to war with China. Nevertheless, I could still see Japan playing a similar role like Poland in the Russo-Ukraine conflict. Japan could accept the DPP escapees and Taiwanese refugees. Japan could act as a proxy for the US to attempt to provide military aid shipments to Taiwan. But doing so by sea compared to a land border is a whole different type of challenge. Very doubtful that it could be done, but I'm sure that the US and Japan will try. Japan could throw all kinds of sanctions and boycotts on China. But the economic costs will be disastrous for Japan too.
Today is the 77th anniversary of the Victory over Japan Day. As the only country that got bombed by atomic bombs, I would be a little bit more cautious to get entangled in another war with a nuclear power, if I were Japan.

I don't care who Blackburn is. But it's good to know:

Karma for the Opium War?

Was Biden's speech so bad last night?

The recent "UN Uyghur report" was not mandated by the Human Rights Council and is in the same league as the previous reports about Venezuela. It's assessment of the situation in Xinjiang lacks credibility, is woefully incomplete, highly politicized, and is tantamount to disinformation and defamation.

It’s hilarious how the Brits import the least amount of Russian gas out of all the European nations but they are getting screwed harder than anyone else in Western Europe. The gleeful Brits a few months ago have been very terrified with winter prices. UK subreddit isn’t that fond of the brewing situation either anymore. Some of them are shocked they are getting hit this badly.
Maybe once all their pubs are out of business they might sober up enough to realize they royally f*cked up.

That has been going on since 1949.

Chairman Mao was not joking when he declared China had stood up.

Since that statement by the Great Helmsman, the west has always wanted China to sit down again.

We are dealing with toxic Dengist coupling for 40 years with the US and wider West. There is also huge behavioural inertia at play. The challenges and mindset of the PRC in 1949 and 2022 are like two different worlds. Absolutely not comparable.
