Could be related to that G7 energy price cap thing. This could be Russia turning the screws on the West to show them who actually is in the superior position to bargain.

Maybe. Maybe not. Because it’s quite convienent that the West threaten to impose direct control of Russian prices at the same time Nord Stream was scheduled to undergo maintenance between Aug 31- Sept 3. That maintenance was announced like a month ago.

This is nice but Russia afraid of the price cap and is already offering long-term oil contracts at steep discounts, in anticipation of the cap.
I wonder if the west could do same against china export if there is a TW war

Zero Chance. It won’t happen or even be possible because the shipping lanes would have been already closed. They can’t impose anything when it’s already functionally dead and neither would any civilian cargo firms will want to transport during the conflict.

Ah Taro Aso, that clown. Remember last year that he said that the waste water from Fukushima Daiichi is safe to drink? Zhao Lijian challenged him to drink that water to prove his claim correct.

Has he drank that water in public? Nope. So I don't think we should take his claim about Taiwan too seriously. Its more hot air.

Even with discounts it's still more than before the war started.

The oil price cap is another dumb idea from Europe. I thought they weren't buying oil from Russia any more. All it's doing is making them even more dependent on OPEC for oil, which means they will have to do anything the Arabs say when it comes to Israel. Since that's not possible the only option they will have is to go without oil. It's watching an entire continent commit suicide.

long term contracts may have other clauses like delivery X number of physical goods and services, accepting Russia Mir card etc
. Russia is investing as fast it can built infrastructure away from Europe. so priority may not be price but it what it gets in return.
it is not in interest of OPEC+ members to have much lower price in the market.
Russia continue to make investment in cultural and ideological in direction OPEC+.

Brits worst hit by energy crisis in Western Europe – IMF

The deepening energy crisis is hitting British households harder than their peers in other Western European states, The Guardian reported on Thursday, citing analysis by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The report also pointed out that the difference in cost burden on low-income and wealthy households is far greater in Britain than elsewhere in Europe. This was attributed to the UK’s heavy reliance on gas to heat homes and produce electricity at a time of spiking prices. In addition, the UK has the least energy efficient homes in Western Europe, according to the IMF.

The research found that the average UK household is expected to lose 8.3% of its total spending power in 2022 due to higher energy bills. Meanwhile, in Germany and Spain, the figure is expected to be 4%. Only Estonian and Czech households face a higher impact than the UK in all of Europe.

The poorest 10% of UK households are forecast to spend 17.8% of their budget on energy this year, while the wealthiest 10% will fork over just 6.1%. This difference of 11.7 percentage points is by far the greatest disparity among the 25 European countries assessed by the IMF. In France, the difference is 3.9 percentage points, while in the Netherlands it is 2.5.

The surging costs of other goods is expected to shave another 2% off of British household budgets in 2022.

It’s hilarious how the Brits import the least amount of Russian gas out of all the European nations but they are getting screwed harder than anyone else in Western Europe. The gleeful Brits a few months ago have been very terrified with winter prices. UK subreddit isn’t that fond of the brewing situation either anymore. Some of them are shocked they are getting hit this badly.

The most funny part of the situation, is they will be on their own because of Brexit, lol ! If Britain would be still with the rest, sharing problems would have helped a bit. Right now it's a race to oblivion. Not being able to buy an European car or goods is sad in Russia but not being able to heat your home is something else entirely...
