This question became a magnet for weird content on Quora and especially on Twitter. I have to clarify a few things first

1- “Turkey should be kicked out of NATO.”

NATO has no member expulsion mechanism and even if did Turkey wouldn’t be expelled. With its good defense industry, large military, militaristic culture (means an endless supply of men during a war) and very strategic location it is easily one of the five most important members of NATO. Also, it has been a member for 65+ years. I know some jingoistic people especially from some European countries love screaming “kick Turkey out” or “sanction Turkey” on every occasion they get but what I am writing is the reality. The US and UK would laugh at this proposal even if NATO had a member expulsion mechanism.

2- “Turkey can not prevent Finland and Sweden’s NATO accession.”

No. It can. Membership requires unanimous approval. Greece blocked North Macedonia’s accession for 10 years.

After addressing these I can answer the question. I think it won’t but it will require concessions in return. Turkey did a similar thing in 2009 against Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s bid for the position of general secretary. The reason was the same as today. It was his support to the PKK and his general anti-Turkish policies. Turkey stopped vetoing him in return for 3 important missions in NATO.

In international politics everything has a price and the price is determined by the opposing sides' negotiation power. Turkey currently has a lot of negotiating power against Finland and Sweden since it can block their NATO membership. Considering that it has disputes with these two countries it is not going to miss this opportunity to position itself better in the said disputes. No smart country would. Especially Sweden’s open support to PKK, a terrorist organization that is responsible for the deaths of 40000 Turkish citizens since 1980, must be addressed. At least things like these should stop happening.

People seem to conflate NATO with supranational organisations like the EU. NATO was created as a military alliance, not an economic/political experiment. America has turned it into a quasi-political organiusation after the cold war, but it can easily be reverted. America is the senior partner in NATO, if a country wants to leave they need to give not to America to leave the alliance.

It would be messy and embarrassing, but any political objections Turkey holds can easily be overcome. The only trump card they hold is their membership. Because of their geographical location and the presence of nuclear assets Turkey is an important NATO ally. If it wasn't for that they wouldn't be needed.

North Macedonia is a completely different situation to the one we have today. NM weren't under imminent military invasion, so America was happy to let the bilateral political game play out. If they were, America would be happy to sour relations with Greece if need be. Unlike Turkey, Greece doesn't offer much to NATO.

He's pretty much a dictator at this point so I don't think public opinion will bother him too much. He's been fine with various european countries supporting Kurdish and Islamist groups at various points.

This is just a way to get more concessions (i.e. money) out of NATO. He's dumb for trying it. It may work against the EU with refugees, but it won't work on America.

Here's to hoping China usurps US as the predominant Asian power. Singapore needs more Chinese influence, not less. Singaporean youth in particular need to be taught to admire their Chinese roots, culture and history as an ancient civilization. Exactly The are closing the Peranakan museum for renovation I bet my bottom dollar when they reopened they will have gallery for Chitty peranakan. He is under alot of pressure too. I remember the Serbian government representative mentioning that they had no choice but to vote for kicking out Russia from UN human rights council due to outside pressure. This was after the alleged war crimes in bucha(?) news came out. Got guts to resist pressure when it matters.

My understanding is through the conflicts with India, the pak military built up a impervious reputation within the population that they are pretty much equated to the nation's survival. I can't blame that for that. But they do need to fix up their economy and not get debt trapped by IMF. Also doing something positive for balochistan province, it's a dangerous hindrance to pak china cooperation on CPEC.
