The audacity to compare gweilo with the n-word is stunning. The latter is a term that is used as a slur to a group of other people who were literally ENSLAVED for their skin color and were considered (and I bet in the mind of many racist white people they still are) "inferior" by white people. The level of emotional baggage behind each word is incomparable, this is another example of the sheer fragility and desire to play victims. Reminds me of neckbeards crying about "white genocide" when, oh gosh, 1 out of 10 actors was replaced by a non-white person in some random ass film or TV show.

I agree that Gweilo does not nearly the same kind of negative connotation as N***er, but I don't think it's totally unreasonable for people to have negative feelings about it. Being a totally subjective matter, I would put it on par with something like "Oriental".

Culture is always evolving and peoples feelings will ebb and flow.

There is modern Asian restaurant in Toronto opened by a Hakka Chinese chef whose parents came from India and Jamaica. He had originally planned to name the restaurant "GweiLo", but after some minor outcry, he changed it to "DaiLo".

Really say to see these people so easily leave their country to an hostile country with such racism. Does china media not show all the anti Asian events going on in the US? This may be a fault of Chinese media not being aggressive enough.
He's going to Atlanta of all places... Not even NYC, LA or SF... Atlanta. Marginally better than Idaho I guess.

The last video of the F-35C crashing into the South China Sea, said to be sourced from Weibo

"I don't think it's a arresting cable issue

1. In the accident of the USS Washington F-18F breaking the arresting cable and falling into the sea, it was directly plunged into the sea from the end of the inclined deck. During the process, it did not spin horizontally due to loss of control. The photos of the F-35C falling into the sea clearly showed that there were horizontal spins and and large linear velocity before entering the water

2. The impact position that occurred obviously has not yet reached the position of the first arresting cable

3. There is the sound of engine afterburning at the end of the video. The pilot should have noticed that the underline was too steep and could not be hooked"
So the pilot already radioed he had some sort of fault while in the air? Or else why were they filming the approach

It is an issue with Cantonese. It is a very old language that uses "ghost" to describe foreign. Other Chinese languages use different words such as 外 and 番. Doubtful Cantonese felt it is offensive so it is difficult for them to change the words.

The racism acts against Weems was very primitive behaviour and unfortunate gaffe. The Chinese authorities should eliminate such incidents by adding education about humanity and races in the school curriculum.. These people came off like rural peasants and the bigger fault was ignorance more then the racism itself hence there crimes can be excused somewhat. There is no Crime in someone being Black, White, Yellow, Red, etc etc. It is a divine creation but they should be thought that there is no difference with flesh and bones including, Heart, emotions, shyness and shame in the curriculum. The Chinese gov't should combat this ignorance it will also give others like the west an unnecessary ammo.. This issues is not only problem in one country but many countries and mostly in rural areas and the culprit is ignorance
Firstly I am not here to defend the abusers.

But I don't believe in your solution. Abusive person will abuse anyone with anything. No amount of education of any sort could stop abuser to insult. If Jeremy Weems is a native Chinese star, the abuser would have "greeted his mother". I don't see which one is any better. In the end, does it matter if your attacker hurt you with a knife instead of a club?

Nowadays, it is trendy in the west to split violence further into many categories which is IMO "dealing with the superficial". I don't believe it would ever work, nor do I agree China to follow the trend. Instead, the direct method I suggest is to imprison the abuser since there is video evidence, ban the person to enter any sport's venue for some years, fine the person so much that really hurt. So far this is not a practice in China (nor anywhere else). The law is too lenient. The education part is long-term and should focus on "treating people as one expect to be treated" rather than splitting hair.

What happened to Sunny Weems was unfortunate and terrible experience for him for sure. And yet, this latest incident is being used by the usual anti-China crowd to label all Chinese as racist and somehow Europe, America are angels.

Do you have the video that we can make our own judgement? I won't take single side for granted.

I'll provide the link later because I only was made aware of this from my friend's teenage son. It's on Instagram and I asked him to play the video (have yet to see the actual footage) on the phone and yeah it was pretty well pronounced that the idiots were reveling in using the slur against the basketball player.
