Why not.
Foreign Policy is the US establishment speaking. And this is the World News thread.

So this is relevant and on topic. Thoughts?
The authors are from AEI a conservative think tank. Their job's focus is on disseminating feel good propaganda and hammering in narratives that tickle the sensibilities of a certain demographic.

If they are the "establishment speaking" then all is safe for China. ( which isn't in fact the reality as the establishment has more calculative and cunning pundits who correctly predicted China's rise by 2005 and started creating counter measures.)

US foreign policy isn't run by donation greased think tanks whose interests and vision are myopic. No great power's is.

You should have some discernment on the acceptable quality of articles to post here. There's a difference between the usual garbage in Western media and particularly rancid garbage like this.
What would be considered acceptable western media. 90% of English language media is controlled by 3-4 global media outlets - all of them based the West. That doesn’t leave much for discussion.

Foreign Policy is widely held in high esteem by Western media, elite and regularly hosts US establishment people.

I remember that in the past, 10 years ago, it had an acceptable quality but gradually it declined. The Trump attack against China was the big one.

Anyway, when the US establishment speaks, the world, China, and members here, pay attention. This is why we keep posting garbage articles from Washington Post, New York Times etc.

How can you formulate opinions, and have a discussion if you dont know how China's adversary thinks of China?

IMO as long as members make clear that the posted article is ridiculous then it should be ok to post it

Also, where else are China-related articles going to be checked for factual accuracy and analytical rigor?

Perhaps we should have a thread just for this?

English is the Lingua Franca until that changes China will not be able to challenge Anglo-American media narrative/propaganda. Language shapes how one perceives things because communication is lens from which people see things and transmit information. Expecting the average people to go out of their way to look up information in a foreign tongue is very difficult, even here, many ABCs aren’t able/willing to do so.

But when you see ridiculous conclusions because the article writers still think the US is bigger to China?

It's easy to point this out, and then they realise they look foolish if they have any sense

Imagine suggesting that China's growth of 6% (according to some uncited and unverifiable real calculations the economic growth was 2%) is pathetically bad because it's no longer in the 14% growth Americans before were dismissing as fake news.

Chinese GDP at PPP rates is currently $28 Trillion.

If China grows by 6% per year for 10 years, China would add another $22 Trillion.

In other words, China would add a US-sized economy in the next 10 years.

If China grows by 6% per year for 10 years, China would add another $22 Trillion for a total of $50 Trillion.

In other words, China would add a US-sized economy in the next 10 years.
That simple demonstration you just did should be a litmus test. Anyone who doesn't understand that growth is the product of a rate and the amount of what's growing is innumerate and shouldn't be listened to.
