The other side of the coin is many polls show large majority of White Americans, including Southerners, reject the slavery and racism portions of the Confederacy, but like peoples everywhere, they love their own cultures and traditions. Most Southerners hang onto symbols like the Confederate battle flag and statue of Confederate heros for culture and history, and not for racism. Eww, but there are racists and *gasp* skin head neo-Nazis using the flags to preach racism and hate! Yes there are, and those people are despicable. Nevertheless, they are outcast from their own people, and it's wrong to hold them as the norm of Southern and American society.

I don't like racism anymore than the next guy, and I've personally experienced racism growing up in the States. Real racism, and not the schoolyard bullying type. But, they were exceptions and not the norm, as the vast, vast majority of White America have progressed past it. Does racism still happen today? But of course! What do you expect from 67% of 350 million people? Of course there are outliers. And the fact they are exceptions and outliers is the point; White America is far less racist than it was two generations ago and getting better with every generation.

There is the narrative of the Confederate states and there is the historical Confederate states.
We walk a fine line these days between destroying our historical heritage and appeasing the disenfranchised. Revising history or Memorials based solely on what is popularly accepted.
I find it extremely Ironic that popular culture frowns and demands removal of one historical figure set yet widely raises up another.
Che Guevara, popular on T shirts particularly of the left, yet whose list of crimes against humanity should certainly earn censure. Yet is looked upon as some heroic figure.
We seem to raise up
“A revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate.”

Quite simply, whether a person is a hero or a villain depends on your viewpoint. Some people view Lincoln as a savior, others see him as the devil. People always portray their heros in the best light and their villains in the worst.

The Confederate are traitors to the Union, therefore they lost the war...period. No existence to that former government and symbols should NOT have existed. That's why those folks needs to get over it, just like those Taiwanese idiots that are still hanging onto the past whatever glory they lost after they got defeated in a civil war.

Back when there was slavery, it was controversial not because whites were against slavery but because non-rich whites didn't have jobs that slaves took away. Sound familiar? The "establishment" back then to curb rising discontent among whites spun it that whites that complained were at the level of blacks because they wanted the jobs that blacks do. That's all it took to squash any discontent. Americans won't do those jobs that illegals do especially for the pay but they still want to hate them for it and not those that chose to employ illegals or back then have slaves.

Just as the Cold War made the West embrace human rights not because they cared but because if they didn't, they feared the communists would use Western racism and colonialism to start a world revolution against them. The reason why the West can't go back to those times is because they can get nuked for it today. The fear over terrorism shows how stateless organizations can do what use to be thought unimaginable. Just imagine what a country with nukes would do if pushed into a corner. The US considered many times a first strike on China since the Chinese stole China from the West. What made them think twice? A nuclear counter strike from the Soviet Union and later the Chinese. Now look at North Korea... They fear the consequences. Just look at how Western pundits bragged Trump's strike on Syria was a message to China on North Korea. They killed people in a country that had nothing to with the North Korean situation just to send a message to China? That's called not having a conscience. They gleefully bragged about it without a second thought. And people believe they can't commit atrocities today. Yeah I guess your conscience would be clear if you don't have one in the first place hence why they didn't think twice before making such stupid statements.

Yes I know some who read this will get upset because of how I said it. Yes you want to do the deed but not get any heat for it. That doesn't at all tell me you have the morality not to commit crimes against humanity. It just tells me you'll make up some excuse for yourself to do it. Just look at some of the excuses coming from what is the Alt Right today. They believe slavery was the best thing to ever happen to Africans. Why? Because they lived a better life under slavery than on their own. Meaning they're saying they were so primitive before slavery, it was an upgrade. So today not back then, they think when they enslave someone, it's a humanitarian gesture.

The worse part about it, is some of these people believed that somehow "God" gave them the North American continent along with slavery to civilize it anyway they can.:mad:

The counter arguments is the Confederate people should have the self-determination right the Western elites like to impose on its enemies. It is the Union side in the wrong if one view the civil war using that metric

What so righteous about defending a system that enslaves others in order for an elite few to benefit? Sure the Confederate people may have the right to self determine but they lost it ALL after they got defeated in a civil war. In the end the Confederate was in the wrong side of history just like Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A speeding vehicle struck pedestrians on a sidewalk in New York City's Times Square on Thursday, according to an announcement at nearby Reuters news agency headquarters.

The New York Police Department closed off the area.

A Reuters witness said at least 10 people were being treated for injuries on the ground after the collision at the Midtown Manhattan tourist site.
