it looks like EITHER Kremlin fanbois OR Western fanbois got a problem
  1. Today at 6:26 PM
... and now I quickly went through what Russian were saying during today and for me the most interesting was the official claim of purportedly only 23 of 59 TLAMs hit ... now I found the vid with English subtitles, you can check this since 00:20:
  2. Senior U.S. defense officials ... “Between the two of them (Ross and Porter), they launched this salvo of 59 missiles. And we have, with positive confirmation, that each one of those missiles hit the target.” inside the USNI News dated 3:59 PM

I go to bed now, wondering which of the above two points 'requires a willing suspension of disbelief'

I use to have a shipmate that worked at SAPWAR in San Diego. He could have told me what the real scoop was. well some of it...But alas.. back in 2011 he retired from the USN.

Trust me those persons working at SPAWAR know the truth.

But it send a message of "strength" to the public right....human lives be darn?;)
like i said The Russians and most certainly the Syrians knew of the attack.. all russians and probably senior syrian officials and more sensitive equpiment evacuated long before the strike.s They probablt left some poor low level syrian persoalls, night janitor etc there when the missiles strucked.

There are manyRussian personnels (advisors) on that airbase and I'm 99.999% sure US intelligence knows since not to mentioned it's no big secret. Trump admin is NOT going to risk killing Russians with Tomahawks that's why he gave them the headsup and you can bet the Russians told the Syrians as expected.

This is just a show of force like you said ... a dog and pony show to tell the world that the US will retaliate in the event of a chemical attack. The objective and intent is NOT to kill many human beings nor totally destroy Syrian military capability.

US investigating into possibility of Russia assisting Assad in the chemical attack. I sure hope it isn't true.

12:40 p.m.

Senior military officials say the U.S. is looking into whether Russia participated in Syria's chemical weapons attack earlier this week.

The officials say Russia has failed to control the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons.

They say a drone belonging either to Russia or Syria was seen hovering over the site of the chemical weapons attack Tuesday after it happened. The drone returned late in the day as citizens were going to a nearby hospital for treatment. Shortly afterward, officials say the hospital was bombed.

The officials say they believe the hospital attack may have been an effort to cover up evidence of the attack.

The officials weren't authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity. They say they're still reviewing evidence.

(EDITTE look here; what do you think?):

well right above I asked about how many hits they scored, not how missiles they lobbed, because 23 minutes ago ...

in the meantime I read the USNI News
Russia Sends Frigate to Mediterranean Following U.S. Retaliation Strike; U.S. Destroyers Remain On Station

Multiple hits. These missiles were ripple fired with redundentcy in case of failure or antiaircraft fire. Also we. Don't know what the exact targets were and for all we know there were other locations hit.
The main goal of this was a warning and reaffirmation that the soft Americans have left office.
The Kremlin is resolved to remain in a dominant position in the middle East, but now they have witnessed a dressing down of Syria, they have to growl but they can't bite. They moved a frigate to intercept but against 3Guided missile destroyers.
It will be interesting to see what happens as we get more news, who was killed were there any foreign advisors? Russians were probably out but the Syrian government has also been getting military advisors and aide from others including North Korea. WIth some claims of North Koreans even piloting helicopters for Assad, and helping to build hardened hangers.

This was just a show of force, no doubt, I think we all have enough knowledge of military affairs to know that this strike was not a militarily significant event.

I think the more interesting even is still the gas attack itself. It was also clearly not a militarily significant event, but the motives behind it are far less clear. There was no real investigation into it, and none will likely ever be conducted. Who really did it and for what reasons? If Assad was behind it, was he trying to drive a wedge between the Russians and the Americans who are apparently heading toward a detente? If FSA was behind it, were they trying to set up a false flag to drum up support in an attempt to turn the tide? If ISIS was behind it, were they trying to pit the superpowers against each other to save Mosul and Raqqa? If the U.S. was behind it, was Trump trying to distract from the ongoing Russian ties investigations? If the Russians were behind it, were they trying to force Assad to accept the federalized Syria solution by showing him how easily he could be destroyed without Russian support?

All the factions could potentially gain from such an attack, too bad none of them involve the Syrian civilians.

Multiple hits. ...
hey TE I think you know I prefer Tactics over Strategy :)
so I looked at the conflicting claims, posted Yesterday at 10:54 PM

the Kremlin said about half of TLAMs had missed (details in Yesterday at 6:26 PM)

while in the context of the USNI News (link inside Yesterday at 10:54 PM) apparently only that airbase was targeted:
“We developed a proportional response option for the president, which included military response option targets. And what I mean by that are those that are encircled (on initial damage assessment images) – so a military response target would be hardened aircraft shelters, aircraft, fuel that would go into the aircraft, munitions that go into the aircraft, anything that would be a part of a military operation was part of the target area.”

and (right the next point in that article):
“Between the two of them (Ross and Porter), they launched this salvo of 59 missiles. And we have, with positive confirmation, that each one of those missiles hit the target.”

it seems to me (but I slept until now and new info might become available in the meantime) the Kremlin story and the Pentagon story can't be both true at the same time, and I'm curious which story is 'for domestic consumption only'
