I find it funny because westoids love simping for Deng since he was supposedly capitalist over Mao. They seem to forget that just coz Deng isn't as extreme as Mao doesn't mean he's gonna go neoliberal. The guy also grew up from rough times.
DXP-Leader of 8th Route Army-participated as a military leader in Sino-Jap war,a noted leader in ensuing Chinese Civil war ,purges, political infighting, threat of BOTH US/USSR,Sino-Vietnam war etc.Virtually nothing will scare this type of man/leader after being forged in this type of hellish crucible-certainly not some preening dipshit lawyer types from the west

(Not sure if CN will agree tho... coz this card is very important and kinda time sensitive card.)
[Bcoz, just like what the senate(?) Hearing said, that US is trying to source from Japan and other allies, that source from CN...)]
IMO, China should have NEVER relied on or allowed large scale export of raw RE in the first place. Instead China should only export electric motors, Infrared sensors etc. as final product. China should never aim to be a raw material exporter.

So I encourage US, EU and Japan and everybody to divert away from importing RE from China. With the top reserve and complete spectrum of RE China dominate the world in industrial product for almost ever.

This principle is universal to everything, such as oil rich countries. It is bad and weak for them to export crude oil, they should get richer by exporting chemical product, fabric for clothes, all range of plastics etc.

If you are a Chinese national , it is probably not a good idea to try to smuggle in some ban biological fungus that can devastate crops.

The biggest question mark that is not mentioned by this article is "is University of Michigan aware of the research of such fungus by Jian?" BBC asked the university who only denied funding from China. Shouldn't BBC have asked the more impoatant question that I put forward which everyone with a brain should immediately ask.

Once again and as always, BBC, FBI and the whole US regime are being fishy and delibrately being opaque.

This is more relevant in the China demography thread.
True but your post is more about the business development of Xiaomi while this thread has so far focused mostly on progress in R&D. Perhaps a new thread for tracking the business side of these companies?

I hope the forum could one day add better support for keywords or make it easier for cross thread posting. Categorizing by a single thread is often not enough for many posts.
Awwww, is Mr. I-have-a-life concerned about where everyone's posting their thoughts? Just doing your job as an imaginary mod... against a real mod? LOL

Not only that, but they also failed to investigate whether or not a faculty member organized this smuggling attempt. Unfortunately, from my experience and from what I heard, a lot of East and Southeast Asians have little to no backbone and could easily be coerced into doing something this dumb.

They literally didn't think it was a big deal. If they did, there are so many easy and discreet ways to smuggle fungii, especially ones that cannot infect people, it's impossible to be caught.

Here's a story about 2 rivals in the microbiology world. A scientist created a bacteriophage, which is a virus that attacks bacteria and are not harmful to people, so they do not require high level containment. His rival wanted to study it but this person did not answer to the polite request to send a sample. In order to steal it, the rival sent a hand-written letter saying that he got no response to his email so if the response is a denial, it is common courtesy to at least let him know. The inventor sent him a hand-written letter back telling him he can forget about it. The rival then shreds the letter into a fluid bacterial culture and successfully grows the bacteriophage. Fungal spores are as easy to transport as this. They could literally have spread some spores on a letter and snail-mailed it to the lab if they wanted to hide smuggling.

China: Elder brother
Japan: Middle brother
Korea: Younger brother.
Technically Japan is the younger brother, just a mean one that got fatter than the middle bros of Korea and Vietnam.

Chinese civilization arose in 3000 BC. First record of Korea is from Wiman Choson in 200 BC, who conquered Korea as refugees from the fallen State of Yan. First record of Vietnam is also around Qin and early Han.

Japan didn't even get writing, literally prehistoric, until 600 AD, after Rome fell and even Korea and Vietnam had almost 1000 years of history.

If we read the history we can find that western politicians including Kings in the past rarely reach the level of Chinese politicians and statemen in terms of philosophy, understanding of human natural and how society works.

Just one of many examples, Li Shimin, the effectively funding emperor of Tang dynasty had this coversation with his ministers

In 632AD he had a meeting with ministers, he said "If the ruler rules by following the natural law, he would be followed as the son of heaven, otherwise he would be abandoned by people, that is awe". Wei Zheng (minister) quoted a verse by Xun Zi (313BC) "monarch is like boat, people are like water. Water can keep boat afloat, but can also sunk it. Your majesty's view on the subject would be taken as an edict/decree (that we all should follow)".

This is a conscious realization of the world "not revolving around a self entitled person or social class, but around the whole humanity". Another examle of highly praised emperor was emperor Wen of Han (203BC). Although we don't have story of him but the two had set a very high mark of being a true statemen and great human being, and put a high pressure on following rulers. Think about it, they are monarches yet they were speaking like Marxists. One can't imagine these thought from any western elites.

In short, westerners have no examples from their history to comprehend how truely committed political leaders can be in their beliefs.
