Intresting nytime podcast with Thomas Friedman. Kinda funny how he wrote for many years about US superiority and the collapse of China up until he had a chance to visit recently. This guy at least is now more of a moderate compare to the rest of the sinophopic political and media .

The neat part about piracy is pirates aren't under any protection from being attacked by merchant ships in self defence, and China has a lot of tools at its disposal to arm merchant ships, e.g. loitering munitions.

It's not like China hasn't already used piracy as an excuse to station permanent naval presence far from China, this will just turn into another one of those do-nothing-win memes.

Gasoline and Diesel Prices Reduced

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 17 — The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced on the 17th that, in accordance with recent changes in international oil prices and the current refined oil pricing mechanism, domestic gasoline and diesel prices will be lowered by 480 yuan per ton for gasoline and 465 yuan per ton for diesel starting from 24:00 on April 17, 2025.

In order for the rest of the world to take them seriously on that, then should start by protecting their citizens on the Ukrainian front lines from Russian FAB-3000s.
