I dont know if this already has been mentioned, but Henri K mentions in this article that in the indo-china border, the indian army has a numerical advantage.
I have no knowledge of the forces in the border. Can anyone give information about it?
I think putting a large army close to the border is sign of weakness rather than strength because they are vulnerable to attack from the air and from artillery. Modern artillery has long range 30 or 40 km plus even more if you considered rocket.
Having concentrated army near the border make it a juicy target. A good strategy would be to disperse the army and have good infrastructure to give the army the mobility allowing it swift reinforcement where it needed
Then why did Indian position large army on the border? Because they don't have infrastructure.
I really don't understand why the Indian move large tank to the border. They can't move in narrow road and in low capacity bridges. They will clogged and slower the army movement.
Anyway China control the high plateau of Tibet and He who command the height has strategic advantage. .Plus China has excellent road, railway and 9 airports in Tibet allowing it mobility and reinforcement on notice.
Remember the Gustav line where the German under Kesselring execute a clever retreat and bogged down the Allies army by shooting it from the height of Monte Cassino
Only landing from the back of Gustave line save the day But in Himalaya there is no such landing
