Re: "Z-20" 10 ton attack helo project?

the referred to as the z-10

Actually I think it is "officially" known only Z-10, but popularly it is called WZ-10 ! Just take a look at the tail on the prototypes, there's only the Z-10 title written.

Correct, there is no such designation as WZ, it's always only Z. It first started as someone called the attack version of Z9 WZ9, but later proven wrong as its correct designation is Z9W.

I was wondering about the Chinese military budget and how it compares to previous years. I came across this

between 1991 and 2010. Pretty impressive increase I have to say, especially when you compare to the mid '90s. Does anybody know how much its inceased in the last two years?

If you go on the website you posted again, you'll see that they have add the expenditure for 2011. The expenditure are always determined after the end of the fiscal year, so you will not the the numbers for 2012 before 2013.

I have always been wondering whether the US requires some sort of English test for recruits before they are actually allowed in the armed forces. For example, making sure that recruits know the difference between: thought, though and through or knowing the difference between would've and would have and the disgusting 'would of' (atrocious English), or even the basic I before E except after C rule. I just think the military should ensure that it's soldiers have at least the English skills of a primary school (or elementary for Americans) child.

Edit..there's a basic reading skills exam before a potential recruit is allowed to take the ASVAB test.

Yes, There's the ASVAB test...read below....and read more in the link.

ASVAB Test

With thousands of different jobs for enlisted personnel and officers, there’s a lot to do in the Military. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program can help young adults identify and explore potentially satisfying occupations and develop effective strategies to realize career goals.

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is one of the most widely used, multiple-aptitude tests in the world, developed and maintained by the Department of Defense. More than half of all high schools nationwide administer the ASVAB test to students in grades 10, 11 and 12 (sophomores cannot use their scores for enlistment eligibility). Students may also take the test at another school or through a recruiter and may retake the test at any time.

The ASVAB consists of the following eight individual tests:

General Science
Arithmetic Reasoning
Word Knowledge
Paragraph Comprehension
Mathematics Knowledge
Electronics Information
Auto and Shop Information
Mechanical Comprehension

Students are provided with scores on each of these individual tests and three Career Exploration Score composites: Verbal Skills, Math Skills and Science and Technical Skills. The battery takes approximately three hours to complete, and test results are returned to schools in a few weeks.

The Military uses students’ ASVAB scores to identify the occupations that best suit their abilities. Junior, senior and postsecondary school students can use their ASVAB scores for enlistment for up to two years after taking the test.

I have a question in regarding to SPAAG like the Chinese Type 95 and the 35mm. I wanted to know the what are the different role each play and why some country like China have 2 types. One can be armed with MANPAD missiles and the other one isn't. Is the 35mm version mainly for mobile base defense and the Type 95 is more for mobile escort air defense?

I would like to know if the US Navy has a height limit for sailors? I went to the DDG Guangzhuo open day and all the sailors weren't that tall so I'm assuming it's deliberate due to the limited space on a ship.

The military only accepts candidates who fall into a specific height range. This is primarily because the military doesn't have the time or money to order custom-made uniforms and equipment for those who fall outside of the standard ranges.

The cause for rejection for Armed Forces male applicants is height less than 60 inches(152CM) or more than 80(203CM) inches. The cause for rejection for Armed Forces female applicants is height less than 58 inches(147CM) or more than 80(203) inches. The Marines are more restrictive. For the Marines, height standards for male applicants range from 58(147CM) to 78(198CM) inches. Height standards for female applicants range from 58(147CM) to 72(182CM) inches.
