Littoral Combat Ships (LCS)

I was just reading this interesting idea just bring 8 back though doesn't seem to be enough hulls plus what kind of updates and weaponry probably be best just to use your idea or Jeff Heads for the modified legend class either way we are talking some serious upgrades over the current LCS
I'm talking 15 or so years wasted on 'concurrency' which, ironically, had been meant to 'speed up' the development, and I'm talking this really strange structure of USN surface forces now and in years to come (the Burkes, the aging Ticos, and that's it)

looks like the USN starts to "reap the fruits" of revolutionary transformational quantum leap LCS Project:

(just the link because, understandably, there's not a single word about LCSs inside)

an evolution of the OHP-class might've been ready by now
yet I would've expected PopularMechanics.com to feed fanbois  news, but instead "... A lack of useful armament for the LCS ships and agonizingly slow progress on so-called "mission modules" for the new ships has resulted in the Perrys being replaced by fewer, lesser ships. ... Two things are for certain: There's a hole in the Navy's force structure that needs filling, and not a lot of money to fill it."

don't hold your breath.
I saw the interview they are quoting and the admiral was pretty dismissive. What you would get is a very low end frigate with limited capacity for a fairly substantial investment, particularly since the Coast Guard has been stripping the hulls for parts.
This is the same interview that launched the idea of a relaunched Kitty Hawk, and that's pretty farcical to.
The admiral finished it up by saying they would take it in a ship by ship basis but the Ghost fleet was not likely to be a major role in expanding the fleet.

At this point...IMHO...no way they are going to take whatever OHPs are left and revitalize them.

It will be far better to simply add what they need onto the LCS hulls they are contracted to build...and then stop at the contracted number and build the new Frigate (probably a higher end version of either the Freedom or Independence class) from new designs already avaialble that are being built. That way the logistics chain, the training, etc., etc. are not having to be done over, which would simply add cost.

heck, the FFG version of the Large Coast Guard cutter, the Legend class would be pretty straight forward, as would either of the upgraded LCS.

I think that is what they should do...and probably will.

No, there will be Burkes, Burke IIIs, Ticos, and upgraded LCS and the new Frigates. That's what this will develop into...and of course three Zumwalts.

But you never know...I still hold out hopes that more Zumwalts or Zumwalt variants will be built. If Trump gets the economy really going, I can see that happening.

Either way...if they upgrade the LCS and then build the new higher end version for a frigate...they will work fine in a CSG, and ARG, or a SAG. Any of them.

They simply have to do to them what we have been crying out for for the last several years...and I think now they will.

have suggested that one year ago?

(as far as I recall, one year ago the brass still talked in superlatives about LCS Project)
